Re: BlueScooby's 06 STI - Fender Vents Installed (WITH PICS)

What was your method for drilling your switch holes? Did you use a very small hole saw? My attempt with a regular drill bit didn't work well as it wandered too much even after drilling pilot holes.

If you don't want this pic cluttering your thread I can remove it, and send it to you in a PM.

Get a HUDY reamer from your local rc or hobby shop. That would help immensely

I just used a regular drill bit and leaned on the drill to keep it from wandering. Worked pretty well for me actually...

I think I needed to setup a better area to do this at, I kind of went with the nearest flat surface, quickly discovering I needed a solid working area. I think I'm going to give it another shot and hopefully turns out 1/2 as nice as yours =)

It helps if you have a peice of wood under that you can drill into  Then you can lean on the drill till your heart's content. haha

Just another option for your fender liners, but you could always get some HMWPE (thinks that's the right name for that stuff) and make some sleeves for the wiring harnesses. Would all ow you to lose what remains of your fender liners to, just may want to spray som undercoating along the rest of the interior of the fender. Just an option. ;)

Re: BlueScooby's 06 STI - Fender Vents Installed, now working on switch plate

Still waiting on my order of that expandable wire braid stuff to clean up the wires. But in the meantime I finally made test mounted the panel in the car and it fits perfectly

Anyone interested in the JDM center sun visor I removed to make room for the switches? I got it real cheap off ebay, so I'd let any of you guys have it for just the cost of shipping if you're interested. Otherwise I'll make a for-sale thread for it...

I keep saying I'm going to order two sets of inner liners and cut/hot stake them together to make them wider. I have to get on that before they are no longer available.

I'm not sure I know what you mean... are you doing fender flares or something?

BTW, the fender liners from rockauto.com are pretty decent and they are only like $30 a piece.

Was still stuck in my mind on the fender liner thing and know that rolling front fenders or running big tires causes issues - so there was another part to comment in my mind lol.
I'll have to check Rock Auto. As I've burned through part of my front liners and need/want coverage.

Oooh OK. that makes more sense. lol

Both of the fender liners I am running are from rockauto currently. You can tell they are slightly less quality but they are so cheap that I don't care. Plus it makes me feel much more at ease to cut them up :D

Re: BlueScooby's 06 STI - Fender Vents Installed, now working on switch plate

Welp, I just blew a ton of money... Finally getting all the last big items ready before this season ramps up. wheels, tires, brakes, and oil cooler all on the way. That should pretty much do it for where I wanted the car to be. Now if I can keep from spending anything else for a while that would be greeaaat...

Big shoutout to Jason (yamahaSHO) for helping me select an oil cooler and Drew (TehClap) for the wheels

Re: BlueScooby's 06 STI - Fender Vents Installed, now working on switch plate

Well I was going to order a set of the RE-11As but apparently (according to discount tire and bridgestone) there's basically no more in the US (in my size anyway) because they have been discontinued and replaced by the RE-71R... I wanted to go with the 11s over the 71R mostly for the longer treadwear life (even though they are both a 200 treadwear). RE-71R is the fastest auto-X tire right now, but I'm not sure if that also translates to a good road-coarse tire.

What do you guys think? Go with the RE-71R? Something else?

RE-71Rs aren't available over here so no idea really.

My all time favourite so far is the Yokohama AD08R. 180 Treadwear, fast tire, works well both on Track and on public roads / in the rain.
