Tapping into the BPV for boost gauge, galley plug thread size? - question

I installed my Prosport gauges last night.
Turns out the boost gauge is dead - the peak/alarm set button isn't really a button anymore, and the gauge isn't reading anything as far as vacuum or boost.

Anyway, a replacement will be in the works in a couple weeks since Prosport is sold out.

But, my question is in regards to tapping into the BPV.
In this pic:

the line is red is where I tapped. I cut the line, installed the supplied T-fitting, and routed the vacuum tube from there to the electric boost sender.

Is that correct?

I tapped exactly where that red is shown. Should I have gone lower?

There's the red part shown, then right after that, there's a slightly raised portion of the hose- about 2" - before it goes back to the normal size. Should I have tapped there, before, after? Or does it even matter?

I just want to see if I can at least get the gauge to read boost/vacuum until I get the new one to replace the broken one.

Okay, one last question about the oil galley plug. Is it a 1/8NPT sized bolt?

Since Subaru added a coolant line down there for the 06+ STI's, I didn't have enough room to put my sender in there. But, Chris05STI said he used a brass elbow bolt there and it worked nicely. So, I was going to pick one up and just needed to know a size.

Thanks for the help!
Cheers

To answer your first question, I don't think it matters where you tap on that line. I had an OEM boost gauge so I just reused the OEM tap. From the T fitting there was maybe 3-4" of hose that connected to the BPV. Tell me if I need to clarify that for you.

2nd question:

^Nandan, you rock! Thanks man

I wanted to make sure that that larger part of the hose off the BPV didn't have something to do with why my gauge wasn't reading anything. It's confirmed... it's definitely dead!

So, I'll be on a search-and-rescue for a 45* elbow joint 1/8 BSPT bolt with a 1/8 BSPT hole to thread the OP sender into. Wish me luck with that one... where would I find that?

You might also want to confirm that your sender is BSPT and not NPT. Defi Imperial Oil pressure is BSPT, while the Metrics are NPT :)rolleyes:).

I'd look in plumbing for something that will be heat resistant as well. I don't know what stores you guys have up there in the frozen North :)lol:) but I thought I saw some fittings at Lowe's here. Chris might know though, since he mentioned it. :notsure:
