I REALLY want to make my STi a STREET DRIVABLE car that can keep up with the new Z06 or modified C6's. Obvioulsy I know I'd need to upgrade the turbo and other supporting mods, but is it possible to have a car that will be RELIABLE??? I'd rather not spend the $$ on a new Z06 when my car will be paid off and I can upgrade the STi to be just as fast.

What does it REALLY take, not I had a friend who has a friend that runs xyz. I'm looking for personal expereience!!! What do you have to keep up with that kinda car. IE Modded LSx, new vettes(Z06), or other comparable cars.

I'm assuming new block, turbo meth, and suporting mods, but which ones?

You will never keep up with the new z06. 3139 lbs., 505+hp, low 11 second 1/4 with decent shifting skills, high 10 second 1/4 mile times with slicks, the handling is incredible because the ULTRA low center on gravity. You might want to just go ahead and get a z06 if thats what you want to keep up with.

Yes you can obviously. That's not even worth asking. The second part of your question is more relevant: what does it really take.

Comes down to cash obviously. Say you payed up your sti and wish to keep it for another 5 years and make it faster than a z06. So you are saying you want to invest what a z06 would cost (~60k) into mods that will give you another 5 years worth of car. Just by the numbers you can. If you want to do it for less, then gets harder. At some point you just have to get another car.

also while the z06 is fast from rolls and straight, their suspension is stupid which is why they are routinely destroyed at the track by other so called "super cars". Just ask clarkson lol. So if you just want to hang around with them at the track you don't even have to be as fast in a straight line as they are.

I'm not saying a z06 is not a great car, but like all supercars, even one as "cheap" as the z06's their price/performance ratio is less than stellar. Plenty of moded cars can take one head on for less than what a z06 costs.

as for reliability. Say you spend 20K's on rebuilds every 2 years lol. still cheaper than a brand new z06. Take the zr1, now 100K.

If I had 60K i'd get an M3 :). Much more car IMO and is more practical.

The suspension might be slightly old school, but i think you're confused. The Z06 can destroy so called "super cars" on the track. If you watched the Stig take it around the track, it lapped in the top 1/4 of the board. For further proof, look at the nurburgring fast lap times. The Z06 beat the Pagani Zonda S, 911 GT2, 911 GT3 RS, Lambo LP640, and the list goes on. So, in closing, it's fast... everywhere.

An DOM3 or above + Meth will beat it in the 1/4. Meth really helps here. Driver is a big difference too. If you get a good launch you may trap lower, but you can get a low 11 with a DOM3 + Meth.

I diasgree. Show evidence that proves otherwise. I would say possibly a DOM 3.0R w/ C16 but even that's stretching it. You will definitely need a 35R or a 40R. Low 11's isn't that easy in an STi. Believe it or not...

Yeah I know what most of you are saying. It'll be big $$ more or less. I've been debating modding the STi to Z06 level vs. just buying a C6 and slapping on a Procharger. LOL

With a Z06 or C6, you can add in cams, exhaust and some other bolt ons and be pushing 500-600 at the wheel. Get some DR's in the back and call it a day.

It will be more reliable than the STi in the long run.

Basically it looks like a 35R/40R with meth and you can make the same power(on a new block). That ain't too bad. I'd just be nervous about how many hard miles on it until you have to replace it.

I'm just always debating what to do next for a fun car. My 04 was stg2 with a few other goodies and that was fun, but I'd like more power. ;) I've always debated a heavily modded STi vs a step up like Z06, modded C6, Noble M12, Porsche etc. I just am not sure what next.

Cheap. Fast. Reliable.

Pick two.

By the time you make a STi keep up with a Z06, you could have bought a Z06 and have some extra $. If you build it right. Plus labor charges are a ***** if you dont do 80%+ of your own work.

These threads really need to stop.

And why do these threads need to stop?? If the funds are there, these should be up all the time. Don't ba a a hater 'cause you own an EVO.

35r on the stock motor with meth will keep up with stock ones. Race gas can take "some" of them.....

You need to trap about 130 in the 1/4 to "take" one. Even at that, they'll probably pull on you above those speeds.

I consider my car reliable, however, I can't wait to blow the motor up

He should buy an '04 or '05 that's already built with a rotated kit and start from there. And make good friends with someone who has a lift.

That or he could just buy Bruce's car when he's done with it

cutn edg should be able to stay with or beat a z06 in just about every meaningful parameter on dry, wet or snow. the key word is reliability and i have a long ways to go yet to demonstrate that. i look forward to getting the chance shortly.

do i ever expect to get the money i put into it (WAY more than 60k btw)?
no.
do i give a rat's ass?

Get a Z06, it will be reliable out of the box and I think comes with the 10 year warranty from Chevy. I don't really think you could make an STI as reliable as the Z06 with that kind of power.:(

well new Z06's run high 11 low 12 depending on the driver
i hav no clue where u guys r getting a low 11 out of a stock Z06
if u lived in AZ or near to it i'd say take ur car to Dynocomp
and get a Viper Killer Kit and that will put u right at a low 11 or high high 10
depending on the tune and the type of gas u use and that goes for about $7k + tax

Judging by all info looks like a different car and keep this on stg2 DD. I'll save a bit more $$ in the long run and have more reliability on a V8. ;)
