Will color choice affect when I get my car?

Yeah, it's worth it.

I spoke to my dealer a couple of weeks ago to confirm that I will be receiving a car. I'm #4 out of 10. He said that the other 9 pre-orders were all Blue/Gold combos. I ordered Black/Silver. Then I think I read something like the first couple of batches of STi's are all going to be Blue. Do you think my color choice is going to affect when I get the car? Not that I am foaming-at-the-mouth-and-wearing-a-trench-into-the-floor-waiting-for-them-to-give-me-a-call or anything. ;-)

I do not think the color choice will have a lot to do with it, but it could. You may actually be in a better seat than the blues. I think that Subaru was asking what everyone wanted their STi to be so they will be pretty accurate on what they build. Our first order is for a silver. They are very few wanting blue on our waiting list. With luck, everyone will get the car they want in the order of the list they are on.

This would be a whole lot easier if there was an unlimited supply......

From what I understand the dealers don't have much idea of what's coming in until it gets there....at least in the case of STi's. Murley can correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I don't think the STi's are on the in-bound lists.

As far as when you get your car.....the way my dealer is doing it is that the first in line get's first choice of what comes in, then second and so forth. So, as long as no one in front of you decides they like your car when it comes in, its all good.

Also, my dealer told me that they didn't make any of the black/silver combo.....can anyone confirm or deny??

ah

Well, not quite. They don't get, say, a black/gold and go through the line to see who wants it..., they are supposed to build them according to what you want. That's what ordering is. You don't go to McD's and order two burgers for them to see who in line want's Cheeseburgers. They make EXACTLY what you ordered!

Ken-things much be way different in Canada then here as we NEVER get exact ETA days here in New England. Were lucky with the week of ETA.I sure wish I could give my customers more accurate info about there cars but alas I am at the mercy of my distributor,Subaru of New Engalnd.

From the way things are looking....the lists aren't being filled 1-2-3-4.....and so on. BleedPurple just told me today that although he is #1 on his dealer's list, spots #4 and 5 will be getting their cars ASAP because they were the first to want the black/gold combo, which is what the dealer has coming the first round.

So it does in fact matter what color choice you want...you may wait longer, or you may jump to the head of the line.

The color assignments seem to matter. And yet seem to be in a way only SOA can figure since in Hawaii it was the silver that was delivered first. Now it seems that the Black will be the first that will be delivered. Is it by order, allotment, or lottery? Anyone have any idea?SFRinNJ

Right, but you don't get to say what color you get per allocation, do you?

The way it's looking, if the top 10 people all want blue/gold and the first car to show up is a white/gold, then the car goes to the first guy wanting a white/gold.

Is that not how yours is working Murley?

No. If you come to me and order a blue XS forester in a 5spd, I don't submit that to SOA so that you can wait 8 months for the next blue 5spd XS to show up. SOA mfg's you a blue 5spd XS Forester for the NEXT allocation. If there is ANY dealer out there who is not making YOUR CAR specifically, then they are jerking your chain and just telling SOA to send whatever color they make. That's NOT how it should work.

You want a cheeseburger with no onions? Okay! I'll make your ORDER for you.

:)

Yup.....I'll have to pass that along to BleedPurple then. We were all kind of under the impression that the first allocations of the STi were on a "what comes on the truck" basis. If this is not true, he has some ass to chew.

My dealer seems to have the whole color/options thing under control. He has asked me what color, armrest and all that good crap while maintaining that I'll get the second car.

Thanks for setting us straight man.....I'm glad that's the way it SHOULD be.

If somebody's making cheesburger's, I'll take two!

The impression I got from Jack Miller was about what Murley said: they submit the color choices with the order to SOA. I hope that's the way it works. If I'm going to buy a pair of $50 shoes and the shoe store doesn't have the color I want, I might settle for another color. For a car that's going to cost in the mid $30K's, I better get the color I want. I'm not going to end up with a Family Truckster.

Crazytrain,
Which Jack Miller are you dealing with? I know that the Olathe store is getting 4 cars and the KC, KS store is only getting two. Hope you want silver if you are at the Olathe store as #1 and #2 (me) are getting blue/gold and the other two cars they are getting are silver/ silver.

So in this case if #8 was the first one who wanted silver/ silver they could get the first car as it came off the truck.

My STI only three weeks away.

I'm on the list in North Kansas City. I'm still trying to find that business card I picked up when I got on the list. I have no idea who my salesman is. I really hate going into car dealerships. I get the same feeling as going to Best Buy and buying something without getting the performance plan. Sorry, I just got back from Best Buy.

crazytrain,

Throw BleedPurple a PM. He's #1 on the list at the North KC Jack Miller dealer and he has been talking with them quite a bit. In fact, I think he recently started working with someone other than the general manager who was handling the STi sales previously.

Kelly @ Jack Miller NKC said that the first two cars are silver with gold wheels and black with gold. They are due the first week of June. They expect at least one a month after the initial allocation. Kelly says that #1 person wants blue/silver #2 want black/gold, #3 wants silver/silver and #4<me> wants silver silver. SOA is not filling by the preorder so what ever comes in is offered to #1 first. It moves down the line until someone takes it. I am thinking it will be this fall before I get what I want. I need time to save for the stereo anyway.
