I thought you could do a build and tune even post Greenspeed with Accesport as long as you don’t remove emission parts, cats, TGVs, etc.? I was going to do a stock location with the updated Cobb flex fuel kit.

You can but they’re on a rotated build so additional custom fabrication would be needed to put a good enough catalytic converter on a v-band downpipe, something that nobody currently offers in an off-the-shelf package. Still likely cheaper than standalone but understandably a massive pain.

you can. so long as you have the emissions parts still installed/working you are good to go. OP got rid of his emissions stuff as it's more efficient without it, (and on e85 can actually be just as clean for the environment as pump gas with a cat, crazy right) and then greenspeed happened mid build for him. so he's looking for what his options are.

i wouldnt call it a pain. if you know how to weld that is like a 2-3 hour job. it's pretty easy to do. he doesnt have the tgv or air pump though. that's the pain part. just a cat is super easy.

Yeah the actual welding job probably isn’t hard, sourcing a cat that’s definitely good enough and then finding someone willing to weld it up if you don’t weld yourself is the hard part depending on location. Most shops where I live won’t touch anything remotely emissions related, best bet around here is probably to pay a buddy with a few cases of beer.

oh wierd, where do you live? around here the shop i used to work at would weld it in. they wouldnt guarentee passing emissions or anything, but if you wanted one they'd weld it lol. and i know a few of those that would in the area

New York. Upstate, so not too hard to find someone that can weld (itching to learn myself, just need to get some equipment out of deep storage), but the actual shops I've talked to won't touch emissions equipment, at least not for a new customer. Possible that I just need to do more relationship building since I just moved here.

weird. here in va i have never heard of any shop caring about that. they might make you sign a waiver or something saying that if you fail emissions the shop isnt responsible, but that's about it.

At least is not California, car enthusiasts are doomed over there for sure.
oh yeah, cali is the worst. heck they are a big reason for greenspeed.

i'm out in virginia, my area is considered "rural", though it really isnt anymore at this point lol. good thing i dont have to go through emissions though. makes life much easier since i have no emissions items on my car lol

My experience with standalones are from my Supra. Ran a megasquirt for 10 years and a year ago upgraded to a haltech elite 2500.

Haltech is hands down the best for the price with what it can do. I have all the fail safes active and the drivability is perfect.

If in the future I decide to take my sti to that level it will get a Haltech.

Haltech Elite 2500 is indeed a great value ECU for the price point and a good upgrade to the mega squirt no doubt.

There are a ton of great tuning options for the Subi platforms both EJ and FA engines. Between the plug and play Haltech, Motec and Link ECU options plus Cobb AP there is a good tuning solution for any subi build. (Although the days of basically unlimited Cobb AP tuning were the best and are now gone there are still solutions, they just cost 3 times as much as an AP.)
STI and WRX ECU tuning options in 2023+
I think for me with the Haltech Elite 2500 now fully supporting all functions including push button start, SI drive switch and flex fuel that is likely the best value for the price. Assuming budget is not an issue and you simply want the best of the best the Motec M150 or M142 packages are absolutely amazing packages to work with.

if you can swing it. i'd say just bite the bullet and go for a nice standalone. you wont have to worry about anything with it, and you can add ALOT of really nice failsafe features so if something bad does happen, the car will protect itself and potentially save whatever may break.

and as anomalous said, there are nice cats (better than gesi cats) that will not rob you of power or cause any issues that can be welded in. the cats themselves are probably in the 1k ish range. granted you'll still have to worry about the air pump and tgv.
I Pulled the trigger man, Motec M150, now just a waiting game, 4-8 weeks.

Can't wait, I added a Kartboy TiC Tallboy shifter with custom bushings. How's your project going man?
The tallboy with an added 3” extension was one of my favorite mods
