Trunk lid weight savings

Not sure exactly which forum this goes in, but I'm placing it here because I want to do this mod to improve handling, acceleration, and braking...

I was thinking of doing some sort of trunk swap to save weight on my STI – I think the STI trunk is made of steel like the rest of the body parts except the hood which is aluminum. I am wondering how much a WRX trunk & wing weighs. I would estimate the WRX wing weighs less than the STI, but I really don’t know for sure. Anybody know how much each piece on an STI weighs and each piece on a WRX weighs? So, how much does the trunk lid weigh for each model? How much does the wing weigh for each model?

Thanks for both replies. That's actually what I planned on doing, getting a Spec trunk. I'm trying to figure out exactly how much weight I would be saving by swapping to that trunk and a WRX wing vs using a standard USDM STI trunk and wing.

So does anybody know how much the STI trunk and wing weigh? I've been told it weighs 45 lbs between the trunk and wing. Now I just need a stock WRX wing weight so I can add that to a spec c trunk weight (11 lbs I think) to see what kind of grand total of weight I would be saving if I execute this plan.

So does anybody know how much the WRX wing by itself weighs???

There is a lightweight parts thread, but you'll have to search a bit for it. Also, AnorexicSTi's journal has a number of weights listed. Can't help you on the weight of a WRX wing, but if you go to subarugenuineparts.com, you could at least find its shipping weight.

So the STI trunk lid weighs 24 lbs. The wing weighs 17 lbs. And both together weigh 41 lbs? Thanks!

So the spec c trunk (12 lbs painted) with a WRX wing would weigh in somewhere around 20 some odd pounds? I'm guessing on the WRX wing weight...

Anybody know the official weight of the WRX wing?
