Do mind telling me what you paid OTD on your STI's?......I am trying to get an idea of what a good deal is.......Thanks!

Maybe I'm not thinking right, but don't the taxes on a new car vary from state to state? If so, then the OTD price isn't really a fair comparison. I think that is why everyone looks at the dealer price before the Tax/Title/License.

Having said that, I think you can get an STI for around invoice by just looking around a little. I remember reading a couple months back about some dealers going below invoice due to the dealer holdbacks.

If you want a 2005, now is probably the best time to get one. The dealers all know the 2006s are coming soon and they need to reduce the inventory of 2005s.

Aye, I payed cash and I had a good rep. with my dealer. It was the second car I had bought from them and my salesman is a great guy.

$29,750 (plus Rhode Island 7% sales tax & reg fees) OTD was about 33K with no options.
Wow. I'm trying to clarify a couple things, with some info you had posted in another thread about these guys (Anchor Subaru) being able to ship a car somewhere for about $500.

Are you saying that your final price, including the standard subaru destination charge, was $29,750?

If so, that is more than $1000 below invoice as it is listed on Edmunds. Now I had always heard that the dealer holdback on all subarus is 3% of MSRP, which for a base STI, is $973. There must be some additional holdback or something in order for them to sell cars that cheap. Maybe the high volume dealers get an extra 1% holdback or something.

$29,750 was the final price we agreed upon, and then to that you add sales tax, doc fees, etc... it was about 33K out the door. Sticker was $33K or so....

31880. Arm-rest, short throw, upgraded security. This was an 05' in Mid-August.

It originally had silver wheels, and they wanted 800 to change them over. We said (father and I) if you don't change them to gold we are leaving. Well, that solved that problem.

God I love this car.

well state sales tax varies anywhere from 0% to what, 8%? So that is a potential $2400 difference. And each state has different license+reg. fees. Just ask the dealer if you want to see the rundown. Maybe if you post your location or ask in a regional forum you can get better feedback.

You really don't want to be negotiating based on OTD anyway, those are fees you are going to pay regardless. And if you don't know what all those fees are it may give the dealer a chance to slip something else in.

Basically just know what invoice is for the car and all options; shoot for that for a price and do your homework to figure out what you'll be paying in taxes+fees.

I guess cash would make a difference
In some cases maybe, but I think that showing up with a suitcase full of cash (figuratively speaking) to get a good deal is a bit of a myth; I am sure the dealer gets kickbacks on financing which they would miss out on if you pay cash. In my case they quoted me one rate, I showed up to pick up the car a couple days later with a check from my credit union, and then they magically went and found a better rate than what they had quoted me before.

Los Angeles county sales tax is 8.25% and CA reg fees for the STi are over $500. So location makes a huge difference. The laws of supply and demand are a factor too.

I paid a little under $35K OTD for my 2005 with short shifter, alarm, auto-dimming mirror, mats, wheel locks.

My Options:
Auto-Dimming Mirror
Arm-Rest Extension
Turbo Boost Gauge
Short-Throw Shifter
Titanium Shift Knob

My OTD Price excluding taxes and title fee: $32,091

The dealer threw in some nice Prodrive floor mats for free.

I also added a Tire and Wheel Protection Plan that was $400, but only added around $8 to my monthly payment b\c the dealer was able to get me a lower rate than I had originally found.

I purchased the car out of state so I had to pay sales tax in the State where the car is registered. Here in Alabama it was 3% plus the price of the title transfer and tag.

So my final cost of the vehicle was as follows:

$32,091
$ 400 Tire/Wheel Protection
$ 1,499 Taxes/Tag/Title

Total Cost $33,990

$32,600 OTD with Performance Pack, Alarm and Wheel Locks. Dealer also threw in the extended warranty and RoadBlock protection.

I just picked up my CGM last night and got a little over $3K taken off the sticker. I thought it was pretty good since I was only planning on getting $2K. Hard to contain yourself when talking the money to get a good deal when you really want to get another one (this is my second after trading my '04 Black last year).
