OEM Pitch Stop Snapped

My STI has been having issues with squealing under light load from stop and during left turns. I've always thought it may have been a suspension issue. But I have my coilovers installed recently and the squeal were still there.

Then I decided, "Let's upgrade the pitch stop and transmission mount". To my surprise, I found the OEM pitch stop broken in two pieces. This explain the squealing issue due to probably to excessive flexing. I have been driving like this for a few months now.

I'm able to remove the bolt from the frame. However, upon reinstalling the bolt, it would not thread at all. I inspected the bolt hole and it seem the thread has been stripped.

Anyway, the bolt hole can be re-threaded? *crossing finger*

OEM pitch mount snapped... upgrade this when you're modified with big torque numbers. (My STI is a Stage 2 on E85 fuel)

I will be driving my STI without a pitch stop until I can resolve the stripped bolt hole issue. This should have been a straight-forward install. Oh well... :(

Not the most surprising thing in a STI. Still the first time I've seen it. Stripped threads or not, replacing shouldn't be a big deal. If you weren't close I' d help.

I thought of that. But the dealer will not install Group N or Perrin pitch stop. They will install the same, thin OEM pitch stop that will break on me again. I track my car so I need beefier mount.

My short review of the Perrin pitch stop: The improvement is mild at most under normal daily-driving. I can feel a slight improvement with the throttle response. Otherwise, there isn't much that was worth mentioning.

It did, however, shine more when my STI was driven spiritedly through the curvy back roads today. Launching the car at 5300 rpm was rewarding, as always. It felt a bit more solid upon engagement and acceleration. Hard shifting did seem to have some improvement also. With the OEM, on the other hand, you can feel the engine twisting under launch, hard acceleration and hard shifting. Now, it is more of a solid thud; the kind of feeling that tells you clearly that the engine and transmission are engaged solidly. It's a satisfying feeling when driving hard. Lastly, I did not notice any increase of NVH.

Overall, it's definitely an improvement over the broken OEM pitch stop. But I would say, however, this upgrade is not for daily drivers. The benefits on the STI seem to cater more so for Motorsport use. Otherwise, it isn't a "day and night" difference with DD duties.

I still have the Group N transmission mount to install for another day. I will see for myself what kind of improvement it will bring to my STI.

The car is modified at stage 2. Why does everyone seem to think that this would definitely be replaced under warranty? The fact that he would go in there telling them to replace the pitch stop would definitely raise concern as the tech and service departments hate that. They would probably claim abuse. Also putting everything back together and bringing it in to the dealer would probably be more of a pain in the ass than its worth especially if they came back saying it was something else when you knew it wasn't.

When I had my intercooler off I couldnt believe the cheap feel of the pitch stop and I could move it back and forth with my hands. It feels like a weak plastic.
