I think I figured out how to bypass the immobilizer so 06 owners can use the 04 key

I really want that 04 key, yeah yeah I know it adds 20whp blah blah  but I think it's just damn cool and the 06 key's are incredibly lame.

My idea is to basically take the immobilizer chip out of the key and permanently glue the chip right near where you put the key in, then go buy an 04 style STI key and have it cut, and voila - the immobilizer is always there so you can use any key you want. It's just like the idea of the one guy having two keys on his key ring, the 04 style and 06 one with immobilizer, but my idea is to just take the immobilizer chip itself and permanently affix it there.

The only thing i'd be worried about is the chip somehow coming lose and getting lost and then not being able to start the car which would most definitely suck, so i'd have to find a way to really secure it well.

What do you guys think? Will it work? What's the best way to glue it on there so I wouldn't have to worry about it coming off, what's the best type of glue to use or perhaps there's another way to secure it besides glue?

There was a thread about this a while ago. Someone taped a spare key in the steering column. It worked, but I do not know if he had isssues with it.
Yeah, I found that thread when I searched but the picture the guy posted no longer worked so I wasn't sure exactly how he did it. Physically taping an actual key into the car isn't something I want to do, it's one thing to just disable the immobilizer but to actually leave a real key in the car 24/7 isn't smart IMO. Did he tape it to the outside or the inside of the steering column?

Okay what you do is this. This is how people implant remote start on their cars. I did my friend's 06 so i know what to do. You take the chip out of a key, open up the steering column and basicly just tape it to the inside of the steering column by the keyring. After you do that you can buy an 04 key blank and have it cut for your car and use it.

The '04 key will look super sweet in your hands when you come outside to find your 30k car stolen and gone. Do it.
Lol, I agree with nan.

And why don't you just have an '04 key cut and use it to open your trunk instead? It seems like everytime I hear about a STi being stolen (driven away, not towed) it is always the '04 model. Seems like it is more than a coincidence, don't you think?

Hey jag, you might be intrested in the LGT key. Its pretty awsome too. If i got a GC8 body style i'd rock one instead of the STi key.

I'm getting a Commando car alarm system with 2-way LCD pager, I have no need for the immobilizer.

Do you mean you dont need an immobilizer because you have the paging alarm? or because you think you need to change it because of remote start? Usually the good security systems only disable the immobilizer just for the amount of time it requires to remote start the car.
