[ QUOTE=RoshDawg;3964068]Sucks that they bundle in everything with the navi. So if you want H/K sound system or keyless start, you have to get navi? I've been really wanting to install an iPad mini (not actually fabricate anything, just put those sticky pad things on the radio unit and back of the ipad. I really don't want the navi unless it does cool things like the GTR unit, but since this is just navi and nothing else, I don't want it. Hate how they bundle everything.[/QUOTE]

I'm not so sure. I have seen various magazine reviews praising the HK system and the photographs show the standard head unit.

Do you know what exactly is different, by chance?
I don't know spec-wise what's different since I've already committed to going with the Parrot Asteroid I posted about earlier in the thread.

I've done a little more detective work on this and have the following to share.

These 3 images came from subaru.com

Forester h/k setup (FM612US) found in the higher trim levels. Presumably (based on the audio system info in the "Everything you ever wanted to know" video) this is the same thing as the STI's h/k and navigation combo:

Image

BRZ Premium level setup (FA601US), which appears to have the same control hardware as the Forester's k/k, but obviously is missing whatever special stuff the h/k package brings along. Perhaps the nav portion of the BRZ is indeed the same as in the Forester.

Image

Base audio from a 2014 Impreza (CM621UB) which presumably will be the same as base audio in WRX/STI

Image

This image of the WRX navigation unit, which does not have h/k included (FV619US) was found online:

So, between the Forester with h/k and nav, and the BRZ and WRX with nav but no h/k, we have three different part numbers. What this really means, outside of the obvious difference for the h/k unit, isn't exactly clear from the pics alone. I'm not interested enough in the topic to dig into spec sheets, but now that the part numbers are known, perhaps someone else will take that one up. ;)

*edit*

The base audio for STi will be the CV629UM

Thanks for the great write-up and detective work!

It appears that all the Subaru headunits are practically identical except for some extra features and software. I am going to risk it and hope that the adapters and connections on the back of units are the same, which will allow for direct hook-up. Since the FRS/BRZ connections are identical I am hoping to just transfer my FRS nav to WRX. We shall see.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. It's not the best. But I appreciate the integration of navigation. It does the job and that's all that matters right depending, if you paid cost for it!
You're right but it doesn't make sense they are so far behind on technology... in the end the this is a rally car" excuse works for me

Apparently there is a lot of misinformation out there. I just came from my local dealership and he was able to confirm that you can indeed order the H-K Audio without the Navigation system.

Hopefully that really is the case. It doesn't look that way from the invoice info though.

I just placed my order and I assure you that is the case.

So what is the cost if I may ask? I just want the HK + keyless without the Navi.

I wish I could help you, but I didn't order the Keyless Entry and Start option. If memory serves me correctly, I believe it would have cost an additional $600 for that option. The HK Audio system is included on the Limited Model. The only option I did add was the Auto-Dimming mirror and the list price is $41,809 including taxes and title fees.

The HK comes standard on the limited which is what you bought. Its NOT buy itself in the base for options. You didn't order a base so you haven't got a clue. Your full of MALARKY.

I'm not sure what your point is. The question asked was whether or not you can order the HK Audio without the Navigation system and the answer is most certainly yes, even it it requires that you pony up a bit more for the Limited Edition. My recommendation? Take the time to sit down with a sales representative at your local dealership and all of your questions will be answered. As I said earlier, there is a lot of misinformation swirling around online.

LMAO at the shit that Subaru is putting in their cars and trying to pass off as even remotely decent...
It is remotely decent. The laughable thing here is the base audio hardware in a $30k car, plus the price tag they hang on an 'upgrade' to something that should have been the base. But I suppose today's base audio is better than what the buyers of the '04 got. ;)

I've been to a few dealerships myself and I have determined they are spreading as much misinformation as the interwebs.

Actually, I completely agree with you. One salesman actually told me that I should search on the internet to find answers to some of my questions because the Subaru community generally knows more about the car than the dealers themselves.

Re: Re: I really hope this Navigation isn't a complete fail

Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the tweeters in the dash?
Nobody here even has one of these cars yet. You might be able to look at information on Impreza upgrades to get in idea though.
