What tricks have you guys used to keep your nav unit from getting stolen? I don't really park in any shady areas and I lock my doors... but I'm interested to see what you can do to keep it from getting ripped out of your dash?

TIA

I'm considering differen scenarios to hide an aftermarket nav in my STi as well and am leaning towards a dummy plate of sorts also.

First and foremost, never ever leave anything out in the car or especially up on the dash like cords to your iPod, etc. as this is the #1 attractor of "flies" to your vehicle looking to make it a couple of pounds lighter for you.

Statistics show that dark tinted windows will discourage the casual break in. If they cannot easily glance in without looking suspect, you're less likely to get broken into.

Otherwise, it's pretty tough to hide an aftermarket 7" display. I sometimes put a cloth over it when I'm parked in a suspect area. Discourage the possible thief in anyway possible...

im just gonna put a gun manufacture sticker on my rear window if they are that stupid well then they deserve to be shot.

but i have thought about getting some safety torx screws they have a pin inside of them so the driver has a small hole in it to get it out I have a set of drivers cause I do electronics but i dont know anyone else that has a set.

^^^haha

There are also tinted windows that increase the window strength. The window will shatter after one hit, but it will remain in tack because the tint holds it together. You have to hit it repeatedly with a rock or baseball bat in order for the window to finally break. Yes, someone can still break in, but they have to really want it.

^^^True, but you can set the screen back some and still have it look good. Also, it needs to fool them just enough to not want to break in.

I did one where I used a single din stereo and made it look like there was a pocket with pens, and gum coming out of it....I was pretty proud.

2 way alarm is your best defense. That and a CHL. At home a Sig P229 stays under the bed for home defense (car is parked in my garage) and on the road a H&K P2000 is on my hip. Try and steal my **** thief, it'll be your last breath. "12 in the clip, one in the hole, try to break into Pre's car, and your body is gonna turn cold" :D
