These were taken at Hope Cemetery in Barre Vermont, which has some of the most interesting headstones I have ever seen. I shot them all in Black and White to give them a "darker" graveyard feel. lol.

All taken with Canon EOS 30D and 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens, no filters on lens.

Thanks for looking!

Wow! some of those are really cool. Some are really scary. Definitely ornate. Big $$.

I was gonna say ^ the money that is involved in gravestones like this is ridiculous. I also noticed that the majority of the names belonging to the more complex and larger stones are Italian, wonder why that is? Not saying anything just an observation.

(I think some of these would look good using color though too, as long as the light wasn't too crappy)

You are correct on the Italian names throughout the graveyard. The location of this cemetery is in the biggest granite area in Vermont. There is a lot of marble and granite throughout the state. Most of the more ornate stones are at least 100 years old, most of those buried here were immigrant stone carvers from Italy that worked in the various quarry's around. I think some of the stone from Vermont was used in the White House, I could be wrong.

fantastic pictures... i wouldve liked to see some in color tho...

the fact that im looking past the images and reading into the place (ie thinking about people in my life that have passed and will pass) means you have transcended photography and are showing stories... which is awesome.
 You're right!

Those are crazy photos. It's funny, the last cemetery I visited was in VT also, where Robert Frost's grave is. It looks very similar to the headstone in your first pic:

Thats not too far from where I live!

I like the b&w because it fits the theme well. Great shots. I wish some of those had a pricetag.

Oh man I have to get you guys some shots from the cemetery behind my friends school in Latrobe PA. It's St Vincent College and the monks there still practice exorcism. There is a graveyard right behind one of the dorms with some tombs from the civil war era. It's really creepy.

I really liked these pics. The B&W fit the theme very well!!

Cool shots w/ some pretty unique stones. If I can add my $0.02 regarding B&W imaging... I always shoot in color even if I'm going to do a B&W conversion. Color saves a lot more information in the image then setting the camera to B&W. It generally results in better shadow details when taken in color and converted in photoshop or some other app (I use Capture NX & Photoshop for most of my stuff).

Either way, cool stuff. I quite like the one w/ the soccer ball.
