I know we are supposed to tune for this. Im scheduled for a protune on the 4th of august but im wondering if its ok to drive the car 1 1/2 hours away with it installed as long as i stay out of boost? I heard that you can install it and just leave the harness unplugged and just run off mechanical wastegate. Can anyone confirm this? the last thing i wanna do is go boom when im aiming for reliability on the pro tune. Thanks in advance!

I recently installed EBCS and towed mine to get a tune ~30mins away.

It takes half hour to install. I did it the day before the tune, and parked it on the trailer shortly after. I wouldn't drive...

Do some searching on here. IIRC everyone says dont hit boost even once, its not worth it. I drove mine down the road to get gas before the tune and was terrified. Paid too much for the car to screw it up like that, so i felt it justified to toss a friend some money to borrow his trailer.

Install was fairly easy. Very straight forward using grimspeed instructions

you only need needle nose pliers, knife or scissors, and screwdrivers (Philips(spelling?) and flat head) i think

screw the EBCS on in place of stock BCS, then use the diagrams to pop on and off the hoses. I had to slice the end of the tubing and wet it to get it back on the nip. small hands would help too... tight spaces. i gave myself an extra day because you never know what will happen, but i could have easily done it anywhere with just the parts, a leatherman, and a lot of patience.

im very happy with my tune. 319awhp/358awtq on 93 from Agile Auto

You can put it on, and drive it but just don't drive into boost. I think that is pretty easy to accomplish. But honestly with the length of drive and how easy of an install, 15 minutes... you could do in the parking lot when you get the car there. :D

I was planning to do mine in the parking lot before the tune. However I don't know how easy it's going to be to squeeze my hand in there without taking off the intercooler.

I live about 50 miles from my tuner. My question is what happens if I go into boost with it installed? I ask this due to there is some large hills on the highway I would need to take and the car tends to boost in 6th while going up the hill. Even when barely pressing the gas or trying not to.

You can drive down to the shop with the EBCS installed you just have to connect the lines from the wastegate nipple to the turbo instead of actually running the lines to the EBCS itself. You have to stay out of boost also of course. I just drove 30 mins to yimisport and installed it there before I got tuned it took 15 mins to install.

OK REPORT!

there is NO dang way you can install this on an STI( turbo is under intercooler unlike wrx) without removing the intercooler. Unless you are a midget girl theres no way you can remove the clamps and pull the vac lines off the wastegate and turbo.

anyways i had all the vac lines hooked up and ziptied and all setup. I just drove with the harness unplugged (you will have a CEL, cruise control disabled, and SI drive blinking) and ran off mechanical wastegate. I still stayed out of boost the whole drive and everything was fine. Got protuned and im ok with the results.
