Hi guys, question bout changing to 19's,

planning to upgrade my rim to 19's, thinking to go for advan rs on my swp 12 sti or volks te37 on 18's

question:

1. do i need to lower the car when getting 19s? if not, will the 19s look weird on my sti sedan?

2. ride difference? comfort?

personally i like the advan rs and might go for the gold with white/gold combi :) here are the specs 19x9 +45 advan rs2 semi gloss black or 19x9 +38 advan rs gold

im hoping not to lower my car as the road where i'm from are really bad, but if i got the 19s and not lowered it, im afraid it might look weird or a 4x4 sti... if thats the case ill go for the 18s te37 SL version which is more cost effective cause i can still use the stock tires with it :)

i dont mind fender rolling, but i dont wanna spend more for the cambers if ever i need to...

any suggestions? thanks

PS: oh if you guys were wondering why dont i go for 18s advan rs, unfortunately they dont have it here so yeah those are my options: advan rs 2 19x9 +45 semi gloss black / advan rs 19x9 +38 gold / volk te37 sl 18x9 (not sure offset yet but not concave)

What is/are your motive(s) for going 19s?

I do not recommend going any bigger than stock for quite a few reasons. From my perspective, 19s is pushing the limit of the car's looks, so lowering will be more-or-less required if you want the car to look more flush and natural.

From a performance point of view, going bigger wheels will usually mean more unsprung weight, which is disadvatageous for our already-understeering application. You can try and compensate with even grippier tires, but basic physics cannot be altered in the end. You will have more contact patch, but still not worth it IMO. Also, the bigger the wheel gets, the larger the tires will be needed, the lower the traction in low-friction surfaces i.e. wet, snow, ice, gravel.

For practicality, your ride comfort will drop even more due to even lower profile tires that are needed to be fitted. With bigger tires, the price of a set will usually go up about at least 25-50% more depending on brand. I recommend you get another set of 18s that will clear your stock Brembos.

obviously, it would be for pure looks and you would be the best judge of that. If you do get 19's, you'll be getting a lower aspect ratio tire so you will feel the road more. If you keep the same/similar wheel/tire diameter, then car height and filling out the fenders should not be an issue. You can play with different tire sizes here.

after some thoughts, yeah might go for volks te37 for the following reasons:

1. forged
2. cheaper (no need to change tires)
3. comfort
4. no need to lower my car

but.... still thinking for advan rs gold because...
1. i like the white on gold combi
2. more aggressive look, advan rs looks awesome on sti's

thanks for the input guys, maybe i shall try the volks on first and see how it goes... :)

Search for WarAmp's STi. It's SWP with 19x9 +38 gold advan RS. Only difference between what you want and his setup, is that he's lowered on RCE yellows.
+ Thumbs up

If your roads are nice then there will be no issues. If it's a DD and the roads are not nice then stick with 18"s.

Bottom Line - 19"s are for looks, 18's are for play ;)
