I looked for this topic on the search engine and found no thread started, so I am gone give it go in hopes to solving or putting at ease a new owner.
I took my 2016 Sti out for a spin today in the back roads. Car ran fine with no issues. Got home parked the car in the garage and had dinner. About 5 hours laters, came out to garage to turn off Christmas lights. (Switch is in the garage.) I then heard a strange humming noise....Like a fuel pump running.....I looked under the car and sure enough the sounds was coming from the gas tank. I am like what the heck?! Car is parked, engine is off and yet the fuel pump sounds like its running....Got in the car started the car......ran it for a few mins to operating temperature....shut it off and no more sound....Puzzled, I went online and started to look for others with the same issues....Came across some Foresters,Outback and Legacy owners who had the same issue. Turns out its the fuel evaporation leakage checking system....Again, what the heck? I am guessing the system is purging build up vapor pressure or something fuel related???? Funny though, I could not locate the fuel evap leakage checking system in the owners manual...The others had reference and page numbers, but nothing in my owners manual...Hmmmmm
On a side note, my fuel tank was down to almost a 1/4 tank and maybe all the driving on the curvy roads created a slush effect in the gas tank leading to evap system to kick in??? Just a guess.
Another odd thing is the so called "Event data recorder" the topic says its on page 8 but there is nothing on that topic in all of 8-8-12......again what the heck????
So in closing, if anyone else is or has experience this noise without throwing a cell and had no idea where the sound was coming from or why, then I'd say its just the fuel evaporation leakage checking system running.
Anybody got an answer to the Event data recorder as to what it is and why its not printed in my manual even though its listed on page 8 of being in there could help me answer another question.
