Engine "smell" when driving aggressively

Has anyone noticed that if you get on the car a bit, you can smell some.... something, that will get in the cabin? it doesn't smell like oil and definitely not clutch, not sure what it is. I had noticed it before and my salesman said it was "normal for the first few thousand miles"? I've owned Porsches before that had the "Porsche smell", but don't remember either of my Subies having a smell emitted when driving hard. I am not noticing any smoke or anything like that.

I am really concerned with this car - I hate to say it, but I am. Have the last track day of the season next week and the 2nd for the Subie, but I can't get the thought of an engine failure out of my mind - I don't like being paranoid, but I can't help it! ahhhhhhhhh.........

I had the weird smell you're referring to when I bought mine new. It is a hard smell to describe. I was told by the dealer that it is an additive they add to the fuel; some kind of stabilizer. My car was fine after a month or so.

Interesting. Yeah, it did it then and then I haven't noticed it for a while, but last night I drove the car fairly hard a few times - did a few pulls in 3rd and
4th (did not redline the car), and noticed a slight smell after each one. I checked my oil, which was recently changed at the dealership, looks like it is over-filled - not sure if that could have something to do with it or not.

:lol: I like that! hopefully that smell doesn't emerge into the smell of a blown engine when I'm at Autobahn next week!! ;)

If you are over full on oil, even if its not the culprit, I would drain some out. Since I can't smell what you're talking about I would guess that its something burning off when the engine gets hot from driving hard.

On a side note have done the subaru reflash yet? If not I would do that before your next track day

the engine is waxed (the air on the sea isn´t good), it´s for protection purposes...and if you guys give your babies some "thunder and fire", you smell this wax burning

Thanks, everyone. I will continue to drive the car hard and just accept that it is some non-threatening burning of some.... thing
