Different Y Pipes on TMIC

On the bottom MY04 (early) STi TMIC, has a silicone hose on the Y Pipe.

On the top MY04 (unknown manufactured date) STi TMIC, has a solid Y Pipe.

Why this difference?
It was very hard and a PITA to install my friend's TMIC on my car. Could the solid Y pipe have something to do with it?

The y-pipes for the 2005 USDM STI are solid. Here is a picture of mine ...

It was my understanding that they swapped to the solid y-pipe in 2005 (but, maybe there are some late '04's that have it?)

my late model 2004 isn't a solid piece. wondering why they changed it. :notsure:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is curious. I spoke to my friend and his is definitly a late 04 model (one Piece Y). I got mine in July 03.(Two Piece Y)

Dont know his exact Manufacture date. Mine was sometime in May of 2003. He lives in queens. I live on the Island. Got mine from Riverhead Bay Subaru.
