Cusco or Group-N motor/tranny mounts?

I'm torn, somebody please convince me one way or the other. I'm leaning towards the Cuscos but I'm a little worried about the added NVH. Thoughts/opinions?

I wouldnt be worried. Those mounts are awesome, I regret selling mine due to thinking the NVH were serious...meanwhile they make everything feel 2x as good as stock. Ive driven in two cars now with the cusco mounts....

CUSCO for sure. The only time you'll notice any extra vibration is on start up. Don't waste your time with group n's, cusco's are completely streetable and daily driveable. I wish I bought these a long time ago.

Wow... lots of Cusco FTW posts!!!

I had the Group N tranny mount and compared it to stock... it is MUCH stiff er than stock and I don't see how going any harder will give much gain if any. If doing all 4 (tranny, enginex2, and pitch) I think the Group N at half the price of the Cusco will be just fine for street and track.

I was pretty much set on getting the Group N... it might be time for another "talk me out of" thread :D

Cusco's are great. When you start the car it feels like a different animal. It is only noisy and shaky at idle but once you are rolling you do not know they are there.

How bad is it at idle? Personally I'd love to hear more whine from the trans and engine noise, I just don't want to deal with unbearable vibration and buzzing/rattling.
This is how I would compare it. Have you ever driven a diesel truck, like a newer F-350 Powerstoke? Well if you have it feels similar to the shutdown of those trucks as the start up of our cars with Cusco's, if that makes any sense. Honestly once it is in idle there isn't the shaking so much but you can hear the motor ticking, cycling, and loping. My friend who knows nothing about STI's swears the motor is not stock. You do feel the shaking again if you are seriously bogging, but again once you are on a moving it is smooth as silk with only the noise of the motor. The thing that you must consider is the fact that my motor is 100% stock. I don't have a clue what the NVH would be with the mods you have.

the extra shake and vibration from the cusco's goes away in about a month. but nothing can prepare you for the first time you sit behind the wheel and start the car,.... you'll swear you installed them wrong or something!!! the vibration is insane!!! i've had the cusco's for about 8 months now and they have settled down alot. the vibration is about the same as stock now.
i'd have to say go with the cusco's. :)

I have run the Group N mounts in all of my Subarus and highly recommend thm to ANY customer who plans on running any performance mods. When you first install them you'll notice a bit of vibration (i would call it feeling the motor running), but nothing rediculous. I've since driven 20k miles on my STi and no longer feel the vibration, but can still feel the power being put directly to the ground. The motor barely makes a movement upon startup. The cusco's on the other hand are far more suitable for hard "racing" applications, but I still believe the Group N mounts are more then enough. My vote goes towards the Group N's :)

That's sort of my impression as well when feeling the Group N mounts.. to me, they look pretty damn hard compared to the flimsy stock rubber mounts. With just the tranny mount, it made a nice improvement... with all 4, I can't see the Cuscos being THAT much better, especially considering the price difference. If the motor moves 5% more with Group N, I think the "loss" due to energy being transferred to movement of the motor/tranny is probably negligble compared to the Cusco... I would think at that point the cusco is so stiff that other things like where the mounts bolt to may become the weak points and actually "flex".... I think 99% of the gain will be from going from stock to Group N...

How much is a complete set of 4 Cusco mounts (MSRP and best street price)?

I just ordered a set of Cusco mounts for $239usd. The Group-N mounts (engine and tranny) look to be about $160-ish. I'd rather pay the additional $73. My car isn't a daily driver (though I enjoy it like it is lol) so NVH doesn't really matter that much.

The general concensus is that you don't need to upgrade the pitch stop arm.

i have the exact same impression about the cuscos. the first start up feels crazy. you really feel vibration through the seat and steering wheel. after a while though, most of the vibration goes away. i don't even notice the vibration anymore and i drive my car daily. it feels almost like stock. it's all subjective though. get a ride from someone who has the mounts. it's the only way you will know if you like them.

I just ordered a set so I'm taking a chance...no one in our local club has them so I'll be the guinea pig.

A couple questions for you. The main reason I wanted the Cuscos is in stock form, I can really feel the engine moving about, especially when braking hard while downshifting and on the 1-2 shift. Do the Cusco mounts address that at all? I tried ordering the Kartboy tranny crossmember bushings from TiC but they no longer ship to Canada...so I have to go through their Canadian distributor. I heard those bushings really help too.

Personally I don't care about NVH as long as it isn't coming from a mechnical problem (like the struts or a wheelbearing.)

Let me add:

Once the Cusco mounts arrive, I'll make a video of how the car sounds, both inside and out, before and after. That way, hopefully, people will have a better idea of any additional noise/rattles.

Yes the Group N pitch stop mount is already on my 06. I ordered one anyway ....and yes its exactly the same piece.
Wow, good thing these threads exist... I was about to order one for my 05... can anybody confirm whether the 05 comes with the Group N pitch mount as stock?

Everything is SO CONFUSING...

the engine and tranny feel really solid with the cusco mounts. i don't feel much movement. downshifts feel great. the biggest difference for me was the transfer of power. it felt much quicker and more solid. as for noise, i don't notice any excess noise in the cabin anymore. then again, i probably just don't hear it with the exhaust and typhoon going rumble and pssssht

With the cuscos you could probably get away with not even running the pitch stop, thats how little the engine moves. Plus depending on how long you keep the car and what environment you drive in the cuscos will never deteriate(spelt wrong?) so you'll only change them once. I would definatly spend the little extra money and get the best...CUSCO

Yes, it's been said in the past that the +'05 STI pitch stops were found to be identical to the Group N pitch stops- save your dough. Unless you want a solid polyethylene pitch mount like mine, lol.

Not true. I replaced my pitch stop mount with a Group-N and it was definitely not the same. The bushings felt much harder when comparing the two, and the Group-N had different markings on it as well.
What was the production month of your 05? I will compare to mine.

Maybe 04 and early 05 came with STi pitch mounts and late 05 came with Group N?

TALK ABOUT CONFUSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was gonna put in my order today... good thing I waited... hopefully I can get this sorted so I can order tommorow.

The NEW Group N pitch mount and the same mount equipped on every +'05 STI

The OLD Group N pitch mount that SPT still sells... notice the gaps in the main bushing...

It's true that the rubber is of higher durometer in the OLD style one, but the gaps in it make it an inferior product. But you are saying that you did replace yours with a NEW Group N mount and felt that they were different?

If you guys are really serious, you have to get one of these :D ...

Ive got an all billet aluminum pitch stop.......

pitch stop mounts don't do squat. the only reason i swapped the stock unit is because someone gave me a billet mount. the cusco engine and tranny mounts are a different story. learn to love nvh.
