Car: 2011 STI Hatch
I have been tracing down this CEL P2441 for months now and I can not figure it out for the life of me. Hoping someone here could shed some light on the subject.
It started back in July of 2022. Out of nowhere the code popped up on startup, no previous issues or modifications had been made. I checked the code and found it was the RH Air Pump Solenoid Stuck Closed. Without initial testing, I figured the solenoid was corroded and stuck shut being that this was a common issue on these cars due to design. I then proceeded to purchase a new solenoid and install (Which is a royal PITA, removing intake etc.)
After the install I drove the car around the block and on the 4th startup cycle the same code pops back up. I felt defeated at this point.
I searched through the service manual and completed all the steps they recommend for troubleshooting that I could. Things I've verified so far are: Fuse is good, Relay is good, Power to relay is good, Power to Solenoid connector is good, Ground from Solenoid Connector and Relay are good. (I've confirmed Service Manual Steps: 1, 2, 3[by jumping relay], 7, 14, 15, 16, 17)
The only other thing I have yet to check is the connector at the ECU which the service manual lists to check. (Service Manual Steps: 18, 19) I also don't have the test equipment to plug in to the OBD2 to manually switch on / off the solenoid, but I was able to actuate it by jumping the relay.
If anyone has any knowledge on this subject PLEASE HELP. I'm desperate at this point lol I would like to keep the system for smog purposes in California.

It sounds like you are on the right track to diagnosing the issue. The easiest and most effictive way might be to buy the diagnostic tool that you need to test it. If you end up fixing the problem then the computer paid for itself with the first use vs taking it to a mechanic and them charging who knows how much.
Yeah the diagnostic tool is like $300+ on ebay, I guess I could always resell it if I decide too. I am hoping someone went through a similar experience and had found an answer to it. I'll wait and see before I buy the tool.

for clarity, did you replace the driver side sec air valve, or just the solenoid on the valve? you replaced the entire valve assembly with the barometric pressure sensor, correct?

it's the valve that gets rusted shut due to compressed air with humidity in the lines, not the solenoid on the valve that gets rusted.
Hey Thanks for the response! I replaced the Passenger side Secondary Air Valve with a brand new one (the complete valve not just the solenoid). For my year and model the code for P2441 RH reference the passenger side valve. This valve does not have the barometric pressure sensor.

I bench tested the new valve before i installed it as well. Operated just as expected.

I also bench tested the old valve once i removed it from the car and that one operated normal as well. So I know my problem lies outside of the valve itself, i just cant figure out where. I've traced down every hot / ground wire in that circuit and it all works. The only one i have yet to test is from the relay to the ECU.

LH / RH is from driver's seat so passenger is RH, driver's is LH

i know your cobb screen says RH... but...

if you follow the thick line from Relay 1 it goes to driver's side.
if you follow the non ground line from the passengers side valve RH it goes to Relay 2

could the cobb screen have it backwards?
The WRX and the STI are different. The STI is shown with the Valve without the Barometric. (see diagram below) Where Relay 2 feeds RH Valve.

Why did you post the instructions for the LH side when your problem is RH side ?

P2441 is in fact on the passenger side (Bank 1)
The right hand side is the one without the Baro. The left hand side has a baro

Have you tried the correct procedure or where you following the LH instructions ?
I didn't even notice i posted the incorrect procedure. I do in fact have the correct RH procedure printed out and it is what I have been troubleshooting from. I must have screenshot the incorrect section of the manual for this post.

Thanks for reposting the correct procedure. I've completed everything except step number 18 in that procedure checking for a short in the harness from the relay to the ECM. I was also unable to complete Step 3 due to not having the diagnostic tool

Well, I've now checked the wiring from the Relay pin 9 to the ECU and there is no short circuit there either. I am running out of ideas here on why there is a CEL for this at all... Any help is appreciated
