i was curious about this too but are there any downsides to using this? paint removal? scratching?

 

Nope it works great for all aluminum wheels, i even have a little bit of touch up paint on mine, and i thought it would eat that off but it did not. Just try to get it on your skin, it burns like hell.

 

I would not recommend this. Even though at first it seems like the wheels come out nice and clean, the oven cleaner damages the wheel finish. Eventually the wheel will start to peel. I have seen it done on 2 cars before and both wheels started peeling a few weeks later. Personally, there is no way in hell I would do that to my wheels.

 

Mine are fine, and i have been using it for a few months now.

I buy some teflon wheel cleaner at Autozone. I'll look at the specific brand when I get home from work.

It makes wheel cleaning easy. Spray it on, let it soak for a minute, scrub it with a wheel paint friendly brush, rinse with water, and keep scrubbing and rinsing with water until all the brake dust is gone.

It also helps to have a big-ass brush too. I was using the little tiny ones until I discovered this big-ass Black Magic brand wheel brush with soft bristles. It makes cleaning a lot easier and faster.

 

I just clean the wheels as good as I can with what ever wheel cleaner and that is it, If any body like "hay man your wheel are not clean all the way" and I say "I have Brembo's and you don't". I just deal with the fact that the wheels will never look like they where when the car was new. My rims are not getting any smaller and they are still forged. Brake dust is just the bye product of having bad ass braking system on my car....

 

P21S can take the Brembo dust right off.

If you have dust buildup that will still not come off, a clay bar and clay bar spray is your friend.

^^^ I agree. I am going to have to try a variety of things. The oven cleaner seemed to be the best for the build up, like i actually had it built up in the corners of the rims and it was not coming off, and i tried everything to get it off, and nothing worked, i mean ya most things work for just a day or 2 worth of brake dust build up. But to take the corroded and built up brake dust int he corners, the oven cleaner worked the best.

If there are 10 or more people interested, I can get a group buy on it. 1 bottle should last for a while, thus you can mix some with water. I also recommand an OXO wheel brush, it will make your job alot easier.

Just looked it up on Google. It's possible, the packaging looks the same and it's also made in Germany.

I'm no chemistry expert and never used S100, so I can't comment on it.

I used to use S100 and P21S wheel cleaners interchangeably when I had my billet wheels. I was impressed how well they worked without etching the rims. I thought it had been pretty much hashed out on autopia that they are the same product.

Again, I'm not sure, but I do agree that P21S works great, plus it's water based and won't damage the wheel coating.

I've been using it since day one on my STi wheels, nothing else touches these wheels.

 

Im going to have to pick me up some of that P215, it looks really good.

 

hey peleg question for you. I am having the problem stated above. I have had brake dust harden in the cornors. I used eagle one wheel cleaner with no luck. I am thinking the easy off would work for just that one time and then from there on out use some thing else. Need some input.

Wash and clean the wheels, then get a clay bar and clay detailing spray, this stuff should come right off.

i just use a rag. everything comes off, no problems. people always ask how i keep them so clean. seriously all i do is wipe them off once in awhile with a rag,no products (they are dirty in the sig btw)

That would work:

1. On the outer part of the wheel.

2. If you clean them often, if you don't, it's harder to get the dust off, especially if it adheres to the wheel finish.

3. There are some conteminents that you won't be able to see, but if you use a clay bar, detailing spray and do it the right way, it will take off alot of things not visible to the naked eye.

ok guys this is going to sound weird

i did this on my gti when i had the crap building up on my wheels at the corner of the rim and the spokes.

Tooth paste, yes tooth paste, its a light abrasive compound that does a great job getting the braked one s**t off the rims. i recomend you use a tooth brush to get in the corners. another benifit is that it will leave you wheels feeling minty fresh

yeah true. i think the rag only works cuz i do kinda do it often. no more than 2 weeks apart usually
