I didn't want the factory NAV. I'm thinking of mounting a Nuvi between the mirror and top of the windshield.

Has anyone mounted a Garmin in their '08?

I mounted a nuvi660 to my dash using the dashboard disk and the windshield suction cup mount, had to use some sticky 3m tape for the disc, the stuff it comes with didnt work so good. I put it right above the radio in that deprssion where the clock is.The nuvi I have has that fold up antenna on the back it wouldnt fit above the mirror.

I have mine mounted to the left right above the side defroster vent. It does not block visibility and is easy to reach. Plus, I can hide the powercable and run it under the lower door scuff plate and got an extension to run under the driver's seat to the power outlet in the center console so no exposed cables and it looks really clean.

looks good - but dangerous
that thing has the potential to become a nice projectile into your forehead in a collision - the A pillar air bag will add a nice velocity boost to the collision's ∆V.

In a frontal impact, only the front airbag will deploy and the Garmin would be moving forward and not backwards towards the driver, unless it ricochets off the windshield and comes directly back at the driver. Even then, in order for it to hit the head of the driver it would need to get past the steering wheel, and the deflated airbag. However, the relative height of the Garmin is closer to my chest than head. Regardless, having the Garmin mounted near the rear view mirror may actually pose a greater threat to one's head. For that matter, the V1 and the Broadway mirror in the center might be bigger issues than the Garmin mount.

In a side impact from the driver's side, the Garmin will be sent towards the passenger side of the vehicle and not directly back at the driver's head. In a side impact from the passenger side, the Garmin unit has no where else to go. If I had the Garmin mounted on the rear hatch glass directly behind the driver, it may pose a projectile danger, however even in that situation the rear seat back is high enough to block the Garmin brick from hitting your head.

In relative terms, I think I would be more worried about the chrome bumper from a lifted F150 hitting the side of the STI than the Garmin in a side impact.

The beanbag is the best. It doesn't sit in the 08 as well as it did in the 05, but it works. I will never use the suction mounts again, after a year it fell off a few times and got the beanbag soon after.

My wife's LR3 had the perfect place for one. I've owned Garmin projects for a long time. Bought the 2610 when they first came out. I use it on my Harley and have it mounted in my Tundrea. Last year I was able to get a new 2610 for $159 with the latest maps. It's still one of the best GPS's out there. Now most of them are dumbed down for the average user.

I want to get a Nuvi for my car and will probably mount it either between the mirror and headliner or over the cubby where the cigarette lighter is.

This is the one in my wife's LR3

i hate having my garmin 780 mounted on the windshield. my coworker's car got broken into b/c i suspect that they saw his empty mount on his winshield. i got one of these vent mounts on ebay and love it. just have to be careful not to overheat your gps when you blast your heat. i just divert my heat to the floor and sides instead of the middle where it's mounted. i love it. it's close to the cigarette lighter so there's less cabling to fuss with. it's below the window site line so it's not as attractive to thieves.
