I'm thinking about moving to a 17x9's and 245/40 R-comp for ESP class next season of autocross...

anyone running this on an 05?

rubbing issues? what offset?

suspension mods (how low?)?
fender rolling?

You might try the motorsports forum instead... Also there is a big thread on nasioc, apparently people have been stuffing 275s on 8" rims for AS with no rubbing. Need a +48 rim though. So you can probably go wider than 245 but I'm not sure at what point the lowering would start to conflict with the tire width.

What you want is 18x10.5 with 285-315 rubber ;). Search for posts by 'AUTOwrXER' on Nasioc when it comes back up.

I think 17x9 might fit without cutting anything but I'd like to know this too as I'm considering those wheel and tire sizes for STU next year.

You probably only need to roll the fenders a bit to get away with 17x9 with 245s. I know that 245s on stock wheels are no problem on an 05 even with relatively low ride heights.

But you want bigger wheels and tires than that for ESP (well now it will be BSP next year for the STI and EVO ).

Somebody else please post with info on the 17x9s! Come one, Nasioc is down: where are all the STI autox'ers?

well, right now, i'm bone stock... so my lowering is nothing at the moment. But, I'm considering doing some work to bump me into ESP. (But now i see that the classes are moving around and the sti will be moved to BSP for '06). If i do go with the R comps in this size, the suspension work will follow. I'm coming from a street mod civic, so i kinda know what i'm doing :p

275's are too wide for an 8" wheel if you ask me. too much tire flex. \ / ballooned out.. i don't care what psi you put in it...

195 on a 6.5
205/215 on a 7
225/235 on an 8
245/255 on a 9
265/275/285 on a 9.5/10

my opinon, at least

i dont want to go bigger than that.
i'm not going to nationals... and that will be plenty for me to smoke my locals :p plus, 245s are a lot cheaper than 275s lol

and yeah, whats up with nasioc?

I'm not sure maybe they are CCW wheels. Post a thread on Nasioc when it goes back up asking about AUTOwrXER's wheels (Joel Fehrman).

As for me in STU I found out from Tom Hoppe just now that the 5Zigen FN01r-C 17x9s +43 offset will work perfectly on an 05 STi. Plus they weigh like 19 pounds which is about what the stock BBS 17x8s weigh! You could pay more for a custom built wheel but I doubt it would be worth the money.

Yes 245 is the max width for AWD in STU but there is no limit on wheel width in STU. I used to think it was limited to 8" too because that is the limit in STX but it is lifted in STU.

Here is a link to the official PDF:

Maybe next year STU will actually make it into the main rulebook!

why would you go to a wider rim when a 245 fits just fine anyway on a 8.5" rim? it just adds weight.

Well you can even cram 245s on a 7.5 inch rim I'm sure. As I understand it the more rim the better in terms of steering because it keeps the tire supported all the way to the edge. Plus the 5Zigen 17x9s weigh about the same as the stock 05 BBS 17x8s so you're not really losing anything as far as acceleration. You could even go to 17x9s that weigh even less than the stock 17x8s if you want to spend the money.

Where do you race locally??!!? Cause where I'm at....Bristol and Naugatuck, 245's in ESP will not smoke anybody (except maybe the mustang guys)!! As far as cost....255 RA-1's cost less than 235 RA-1's, but I guess its all about where your at.

See you on the track

wierd the 255's are cheaper then the 235's that is very odd id like to see this, becasue i liked those tires alot! especially if you didnt get them shaved and used them in the rain , there sick as hell!

Rankink is running the 275s on an 8" wheel b/c he has to for the Stock Class rulings.

I saw "scooby south" with a set of 17x9 5Zigen FN01r-Cs at the Subie challenge in Gainesville, not sure on the offset though but they didn't appear to stick out very much (so I am assuming theing are +43 as Hoppe had the +35s on before and those stuck out more (but i could be wrong)), and with 1.5-2.5 degrees of camber the tire should be able to "tuck" into the fender if need be.

I'm running 255s on the stock wheels with STi Pinks and everything is perfect. Not sure why you would run anything less then 255s unless limited by class. I hope to get some 275s and some 17x9s but I need to do some more research on if they will fit, I'd be more then happy with a set of 255 Victos on those 17x9 5zigens though.
