dude go to the auto part store and buy some turtle wax polishing compound

i had similar spots but in black on a silver car and the compound took everything right off.

or see what detailer's domain has for a light rubbing/ polishing compound.

Didn't try it, my dad said that their was no point. If turtle wax would take them off then they would have come off during the detail. And the shop tried to wet sand them off but that didn't work, so their going to repaint it in march, once all this snowy weather goes and it starts to warm up a little bit. And their going to do it for free.

I was thinking this. It seems if It didn't come off with the polish from the detail that mean one of two things
A) your detailer wasn't very good
B) Huge issue with the actual paint job

They better repaint for free!!

Yea their deffinatly doing it for free. And the detailer did a great job, he has done my brothers car as well and that turned out beautiful, so it wasn't him. It was a flaw in the paint for sure. Well maby not the paint, but the painter must have messed up or something just got on the paint and he didn't notice it. Im sure my car wasn't the only one they were painting that day.

Phil,

I am about to do a full detail on my 06. I don't intend for this to be a 1 day job, wheels are coming off, seats out, engine bay etc. I have a few questions though;

On the exterior of the car, what order should I do things? Wash, clay, correct paint, seal/wax,trim.

Also, I'm not sure what to use on various exterior parts of the car. The mid spoiler, u told me what polish to use. How should I clean/treat the exterior plastic/rubber parts that surround the windows? The wiper arms? The black plastic piece that surrounds the wipers (the cowl)? The black plastic on the side view mirrors? The windshield squirters?

Any other tricky areas that are non paint that I am forgetting?

I have a good arsenal of products that I have already purchased from you, but I am also about to order Prima wheel armour, Adam's glass sealant, P21s total auto wash, and P21s concours look wax.

Thanks
John

John,

sure thing.

you want to

1. wash
2. clay
3. polish
4. wax

The cowl you can use a dressing like Adam's VRT, Black Wow.

The plastics on the car like the mid bar on the roof and that type of textured material you can use the Menzerna on it by hand.

The wheels you can use the prima wheel armour.

LMK if that helps.

Phil

Phil, I'm looking at purchasing a set of used headers, they have approximately 6k miles on them (waiting on pics). I am going to have them ceramic coated by swain technologies. I was wondering what could i use on the exterior of the headers to clean them well so that the coating has the best chance of adhering? i do not believe they have rust but just regular road debris and grime.

thanks,
nick

nick,

the company that is doing this should be prepping it for coating?

I would probably make sure and ask them, I would be under the impression that is their job.

When you get body work done on a car you don't prep it for paint ;)
When you get your wheels refinished the wheel repair guy should be doing everything.

Would love to know if they do or don't so please keep us posted.

I have two minor bits on my STi that will need fixed, I have already purchased this:

Paint Touch Up Kit - Restoration - Car Maintenance - Griot's Garage

and will get some PSM paint at the dealership tomorrow.

What else would you recommend to be able to do a reasonably good job of fixing up these two dings?

This one is where the roof meets the windshield, I would say its about 1/2" across.

Passenger side front door, probably 3/8" across.

personally I'm not a ding guy, but I would really consider bringing it to a dent guy, for something like that they would fix the dent and touch it up for you.
do you have anyone in the area that can do this?

I am thinking I do, I will ask around at the meet on wednesday. Ryan Moore from Moore performance just recommended sanding it and touching it up when he saw it at the last meet though. I am much more worried about the bit on the roof rather than the door.
