So what is your idea of a great STi commercial?

Here's mine:

"Generations"
Location: Colorado, I will be glad to drive SOA. :)
Conditions: Mountain road, road is wet.
Soundtrack: My Generation: Captain Jack (Fat beat Mix)

Dialog and Sequence:
We brought you the 2.5RS (GC8 2.5RS canyon carving)
We brought you the WRX (Bug eye WRX passes 2.5RS, 2.5RS remains right behind)
Now, in our 35th Anniversary in America, the all-new WRX-STi (both RS and WRX get aside each other, parallel to each other, then they split and the STi speeds to the front, creating a triangle of three cars that continue to carve)

2XXHP, 2XX Torque. Six-Speed Transmission, and Subaru All Wheel Drive. Brembo Brakes, and a World Rally Championship inspired exterior and interior. From a long line of performance Subaru's- let the party begin. :D

The all-new Impreza WRX-STi: When you get it, you get it. THIS is the beauty of Subaru All Wheel Drive. :D

I like it! I love how you pay homage to the Impreza heritage...send it in to SOA and see what they think...

I know a couple of guys in the film industry who could put together something like that, if you wanted to see it, I'd have to talk to them and see what they can do. Of course, we'd need to wait until the STi arrives :)

I dunno who you would pick to say the dialog, but I keep hearing that woman's voice who narrated the WRX commercial (WRX_StiffCompetition.wmv) that ended in saying "but in one important category, Audi and BMW did rate much higher" (prices)

What colors would you have the RS, WRX and STi in?

Here's the lyrics to the song. IMHO, they fit the theme perfectly, especially rap 2. Anybody know how to get this to SOA's marketing department??

My Generation: Captain Jack (Fat Beats Mix)
It's my generation, feel the rhythm of the nation
Take my hand, to understand
It's my generation, feel the rhythm of the nation
Take my hand, to understand
It's my, it's my generation, it's my sweet temptation
Let me feel your soul
It's my, it's my generation, it's my sweet temptation
Let me feel your soul

(Rap 1)
CJ rocks the nation, solid is my foundation
I give you information, help you with your situation
Play me radio station, with no complication
I'm an inspiration, to the whole generation
Party! Throw your hands up! Party! Throw your hands up!
Party! Throw your hands up! Get on up high!
Party! Throw your hands up! Party! Throw your hands up!
Party! Throw your hands up! Get on up high!

(Rap 2)
CJ new sensation, give me a standing ovation
Hit you at ya destination, gotta love my good vibration
Haaa! Here comes the invasion,
Better make some preparations
I am an inspiration, to the whole generation
Party! Throw your hands up! Party! Throw your hands up!
Party! Throw your hands up! Get on up high!
Party! Throw your hands up! Party! Throw your hands up!
Party! Throw your hands up! Get on up high!

My great STi commercial would be me in an sti pulling hand brake 180's everywhere with all-wheel drive burnouts and beating z06's in the straight and curves and then pulling up to the fancy schmanzy ritz hotel with my supermodel girlfriend to attend the hippest party in hip town.

I think the first digits should be 3s. 8)

How 'bout an animation of the inside of the engine like they did in F&F, and then the camera view comes backwards out of the intercooler and the hood scoop and finally zooms out to the entire car. The only sounds in the entire commercial are the boxer growl at 8000 rpm and the bass of the driver's heartbeat.

Commercial One - Imagine the commercial set to "Get This Party Started" by Pink - fade from shot to shot of a peaceful mountain road underscored by the sound of the boxer redline shifting, echoing as it goes. The commercial builds as the music and the exhaust note becomes more pronounced - birds scatter from the trees, deer bolt into the underbrush. The noise builds and builds till the music is no longer heard when the final shot involves the car making a very high-speed pass of the camera along a straight away. The car is nothing but a blurr. Fade to black. Music returns with vocals - "Get this party started, right now" and ends with the full screen font of "STi" alone buy itself without any explanation. This is the teaser trailer.

Commercial Two - Set to the tune "Highway Star" by Deep Purple - lyrics as follows

Nobody gonna take my car
I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
It's gonna break the speed of sound
Oooh it's a killing machine
It's got everything
Like a driving power big fat tyres and everything

I love it and I need it
I bleed it yeah it's a wild hurricane
Alright hold tight
I'm a highway star

Nobody gonna take my girl
I'm gonna keep her to the end
Nobody gonna have my girl
She stays close on every bend
Oooh she's a killing machine
She's got everything
Like a moving mouth body control and everything

The stanzas involve high speed corners and slow-motion 4 wheel drifts (including close ups of the 17" gold rims at "big fat tires...". The chorus involves quick edits of extreme close ups of key parts - hood scoop, prodrive wing, brembo brakes, STi insignia etc. Each edit takes place at each of the symbol smashes. Thhe commercial ends with an oblique shot of the STi on the salt flats at dusk which rapidly zooms from a distance up to the STi symbol in the grill, then slowly pans back to a whole car shot. Great tune, but not sure about the "killing machine" part. This is the money shot commercial to debut a month after the teaser.

What do you guys think? I think Subaru should be listening in on these discussions.

Subaru definetly needs to be listening to these posts. I think we have some excellent ideas! :D

I like the idea of a teaser trailer. Puts a whole new meaning to "when you get it, you get it"

I would say that you have them all in blue, black, silver or white. All of them in the same color, though...

Yeah, that "killing machine" verse would be a little much.
Especially now that the facelift supposedly improved safety for pedestrians in the event of a collision!

It should be changed to "slightly hurting machine"...

Hell, they changed James Brown's "stay on the scene like a sex machine" line to "... lovin' machine" mid-way through the runs of those Pontiac commercials. I swear, people are just way too uptight in this country.

Isn't it funny, or ironic, that Subaru makes the new front end the most evil looking one yet and promotes it as "pedestian friendly"??

You will only break 5 bones in your leg getting hit at a mere 35 miles per hour....

We have 5 bones in our leg?

Well, today another snowboarder collided with me going probably about that speed and I don't think anything's broken...

JJ - I think it'd be better if only the STi were blue, IMHO :) I was thinking the RS could be white, the WRX silver just like in the stiff competition commercial

MYSTi - I see where you're going with the teaser...sorta like what Mazda did with their 6

I was thinking maybe do something along the lines with using STi as an acronym for Speed, Transmission, and Ingenuity

Speed- would be showing a high speed approach and pass of the car in a straight line, flashing 0-60 time by Car & Driver (or some other reputable source)

Transmission - an F&F animation of inside the engine like Agent Chobos suggested

Ingenuity - featuring Subaru All-Wheel Drive (and here you'd mention other key features new to the STi...the camera coming out of the Transmission animation and following the car along some twisties.

Music: Ready Steady Go by Paul Oakenfold (at Ready you'd see the word Speed...at Steady you'd see the word Transmission and at Go you'd see the word Ingenuity flash on the screen)

Another teaser idea - An extreme closeup of the right taillight. The shot stays static on the taillight. Text then says...

"You had better get use to looking at these"

The shot then pans down and to the left to the STi insignia on the trunklid. End of commercial

Yet another teaser - Set to the drum solo at the beginning of Dire Straits "Money for Nothing". The building intensity of the drum solo is complemented by fast edits of STi closeups, wheels, wing, scoop, etc. The edits become faster and faster as the solo builds to the point just before the guitar starts and then silence.... The STi logo comes up in a field of black and a male voice sings the modified line in the song "I want my STi" insted of "I want my own TV" or "MTV" or whatever the hell he says in the song.

Funny commercial - extreme close up of a man sleeping. Fades to his dream - the new prototype WRC car screaming though a scenic course (maybe like Corsica), with him as the driver. Typical power slides and high-speed passes. Fades back to the extreme close-up of him as he sleeps with a big smile on his face. His is awakened by the voice of his wife saying "are you going to come to bed or what?" The camera pans back to reveal that he is sleeping next to the STi in his driveway. The camera continues to pan back to a full shot of the driveway and house as he caresses the gold rim. A heartbeat thumps in the background as the STi is replaced by the WRC prototype with each beat - similar to how the dirt road drift of the '02 WRX rapidly was replaced back and forth with the rally car in the original commercial.

Subaru - if you are listening, I have many more... :D

Yet another teaser - Set to the tune of a shorted version of the intro to Metallica's "Enter Sandman". The commercial involves dark and blurry video of the STi and the rally prototype running hight speed manuevers, yumps, etc. Similar in look to the Enter Sandman video - dreamlike images intercut together, very dark, never really seeing the car as a whole. Cutting increases in speed with build of the song with the symbol strikes showing for a very brief time showing the whole car shot in almost imperceptable flashes. Song ends before lyrics with a black screen - then all that is seen is the headlights of STi in complete darkness which quickly go from off to high intensity, illuminating the front end of the car to give a quick peek, and then slowly fade to off. The headlight intensity is matched by the rev of the engine from idle, quickly to redline, then slowly back to idle.
Then the STi logo does the same fade in/out as the headlights and revs as does the final text of the commercial - "Enter STi"
