WRX vs S4?

Straight-line, track, autocross, rally, what we talking here? I will attack Autocross as I am familiar most with it:
It will depend on the driver. Both cars run pretty close. Even though the S4 has more HP, it also has more weight.
I am talking about the previous gen S4, not the new one, which, in my opinion will get slaughtered like the heavy little piggy it is by a stock WRX.
Both will be hurtin' at the hands of a stock STi.
All of these are good cars though, one's luxury with some performance, one's no luxury but some performance, and one is absolute no-holds barred performance. You have to decide what's best for you.

I own an S4, and in stock form, it is fast and fun to drive, but probably can't be thrown around like a WRX. With some modifications: ECU, downpipes, exhaust, brakes, wheels, suspension, swaybar, it becomes a very fun car to drive.
The biggest draw back is the shifter; the throws are long and sloppy.
If you want a car that is an excellent daily driver, fast but not furious, the S4 is hard to beat.
But if you want a track car for the street, you are better off starting with a STI, Evo, or even a Civic (which is what I am building, and currently runs 12s easily).

I owned a 2000 Nagano Blue S4 for about 7 months back in late 2000. It was a sweet daily driver luxury sedan that haul some balls in a straight line. But it wasn't what i hoped it would be so i sold it. It wasn't fast enough, weighed way too much, and had a horrible shifter. Also if it wasn't in Nagano Blue or Yellow it was not an impressive car to look at. I think a stock wrx is a better car for what i look for in a car like that. And the STI will SMOKE it. Peace!!
New S4's 4.2 V8 weights the same as old 2.7 turbo..
Car does 0-60 in 5.6.... M3 is faster and STi should be also..

I don't like the new S4 b/c its NA. I like the older V6 TT design instead of just a V8. How about the S60R? That's a sweet car, cheaper, quicker to 60 than the S4?
I think comparing the WRX to the S4, S60R, etc is kind of futile. The WRX and STi give up a ton on luxury, but puts all money into performance. The S4 is sporty, but luxurious, whereas the STi is a mean machine.

nicely said, S60R is NICE and cheap and SAFE..
STi is a perfect fit for me. I am young, 5-7, 150lb, single (with a girlfriend when lucky), so no need for a huge expensive german car..
I will def. throw in a few grand into awesome mp3/nav unit with subs and speakers and crank up trance/hosue/progressive music....
fast, furious, great all seasons, great braking, handling an custom sound with DVD NAV.. all for under $40k.. Cant be beat!!!

Holy ICE batman!! Mp3 is cool, nav is cool, nice system is cool....but subs? You into lots of annoying bass that pisses other people off and makes your car make horrible rattling sounds? I hope you're not talking about 4 twelves in da trunk...lol! Sorry i hate the whole subs in the trunk and bass stuff. If thats what ya wanna do then its your car. WORD!!amdmaxx said:

Buy a Cobra SVT, change pulley, chip, exaust and you are at about 450HP, a bit more pricy than a STi but will beat the hell out of it at any speed, any time except during winter, mud or rain. Don't want to bash anybody, but comparing a S4 to a STi or WRX is *IMO* non-sense. It's like comparing my Z06 Vette with a Cobra SVT. Similar performance but apples and oranges. I currently have a 03 A4 3.0, a 03 Z06 Vette and the girlfriend, a 02 Nissan Spec-V. Comparing my Vette with my A4 is still non-sense. NOT because the A4 is slower, but the A4 has WAY more stuff other than performance. Compare the seats of the STi with the seats of the S4... Compare the ride comfort... why would i spend 4k more on a car with the curb weight of a Mercedes Benz sedan....the gear shifter of an economy car....a big V8 enigine that needs a friggin' supercharger just to reach390 hp....is of ford quality.....and is ohhh....i don't know...A MUSTANG!! WORD!!

But all you really need to say is its a Mustake oops I meant Mustang. 8) I just cant believe how many of them I see on the road not Cobras or GT's but all of them together there is just an unbelievable amount of them on the road. Why would you want a car that everybody has and the GT isnt even that fast. Oh well enough on that give me my STi and I'll be happy

heheheheheh.....I HATE mustang's with a passion. Everytime i see some N'sync reject, abercrombie N fitch looking mutha luva in one i smoke his butt!!! And i mean SMOKE. I am a very cautious reserved driver on public roads except when i see a stang.....its like a bull seeing red. The only speeding ticket i have was when i destroyed a mustang cobra with a saleen supercharger package. I murdered him...but my dumb butt did in front of a high school with 3 cops in the parking lot. And of course me in the Import got pulled over while the stang went about his business. I am highly considering the new S4 over the STi. I currently have an 01 M3 and IS300. The lexus will be leaving and an AWD car will replace it, but i am still trying to figure out which one i want. I want the performance of the STi but at the same time, the luxury and class of a S4 will be perfect companion w/ my other beast.
any suggestion?
