Oh dear! I have been driving it fine for nearly a week (it arrived last Friday) but yesterday something odd started occuring. After gear change and applying gas it goes and then just dies... but then picks up again. Took it out again this evening and my Husband nearly came to a stop before it hit in again and then went ok. He had to come down through the gears to 1st and it still wouldnt pull away at all (5 miles per hour). Then it just shot off again.

Is there a simple explaination? Yes I use Shell Optimax.

Doesnt my post make sense? Ok.... Im waiting at lights (for example), I put my foot down and the car accelerates but then dies. I have to shift down to first, wait a second or two and apply gas again and off I go.

This happens through any gear shift if I apply the gas hard.

Does that sound better?

First off...welcome!!!

Sounds to me its not a powertrain problem, but something with your fuel system or ecu. Sounds to me like you lose power b/c of possibly a faulty injector?? I would take it in to get checked.

OK... dumb question. Does STI ver 2 mean that it is a used (older) Subie then?

I would assume that STi 2 is in reference to the second STi model year. I think that we are now at STi 8 (Europe).....so yes, it would mean the car is a used STi.

It sounds like you have an intermittant coil pack that plagued some of the earlier STi's. Apparently they're located in such a place that water splashes on them and causes them to fail. Might be something to mention when you bring it in.
