Hi everyone,
can't decide if I want to use 225/40/R18 or 235/40/R18 for my 8.5" wide rims.
How will the handling vary between the two?

Thanks :)

yeah... 8.5 u have PLENTY of room...most guys are running 255 without any rubbing
stock suspension?
i would say "most guys" alot of people try to talk about it but are too scurred they might rub so they get 235s.

i reply to way too many topics about "can i fit this with 0 rubbing and no camber changes?" simple answer is usually no if you're talking about tires wider than 245.

anyway, why not 255? if someone isn't up for doing fender mods or has strut clearance issues (coilovers) then 255 don't just "fit"

and find me someone with 275s where they are actually under the body without -3.0 camber in the rear or some insanely pulled fenders. (and no wide body of course).

I personally run 275s for my autox setup and love it, but don't see the purpose for more than a 245 or so on the street.

235/40 is usally enough for 90% of the world in STi's

was just wondering if I could pull off having a 245/40 with the springs on there with no rubbing. Also keeping the 8.5 rim.

it all depends on offset and what springs you're talking about.

thanks for all the help, I'am running Cusco coilovers and not stock suspension.

I am wondering, if the width of the rim stays 8.5", won't the side walls be softer and easier to roll when the width of the tire increases?

And there is also the weight issue..Falken Azenis RT-615 235/40R18 25.5 lbs...245/40R18 28.4 lbs

what kind of setup can you run if you have on tien s tech springs.
well i had tein s-techs and 225/40/18 and the ride sucks.i really think you should ditch the springs and get something alittle stiffer because those are bouncy as hell.

225/40/18 dont feel solid with 8.5 inch rim. if you are just driving it on the street, you'll be fine with 235 or maybe 245

that being said i cant wait to slap my 255/40/18s on hopefully tomorrow :naughty:

255/40 18? are you serious? good luck rubbing away that front fender lining and bumper.

hopefully you meant 255/35 18.

nope i meant 255/40 18 . i plan to roll or cut the fender lining. i have enough camber that i should be good.

you plan on cutting the front bumper too?

a 245/40 18 is tall enough to almost rub on the splitters.

if your diameter gets too large you run into more issues then just fender lining.

but you sound up for bending/cutting metal and plastic.

i'll be doing the same when i get my 305s ;)

hey its reneeee

Really? I have had no problems with the springs thus far. i love them. The ride is pretty stiff to tell the truth plus if you hit a big bump you can hear and feel it hit the bottom. No bounciness though.

so I could run a 235/40/18 on a rim lets say the Volk GT-N 18x8.5 and not have to worry about anything. I have the Tien S-tech springs.
