or better yet, how long with your test drive be? :) i'm thinking i'll just drive around the block, but part of me wants to just buy the car without a test drive. after all, what could i discover on a test drive that will make me reconsider? :) i know i fit in there fine; the interior similar enough to the wrx. it seems the only reason to do a test drive is to make sure there is no "quirkiness" from the factory, though this is stuff that would be covered under warranty anyway.

I'll take it for a drive....just to quench this thirst I've had for so long. And you know.....just kinda as a technicality.

Regardless of how much you know you like a car.....I don't know of anyone that has actually signed the papers without driving it first.

I'll definitely take it for a drive. I'd like to spend an hour in it, roughly the time it would take me to drive it home and back through some back country roads. It's something I will discuss with the salesman. I'll also want my wife to test drive it too, but she won't need as much time. Probably 10 minutes for her.

No test drive needed for me and I certainly don't want anybody test driving my car before I get to it. If I see more than a few miles on the odomoeter I will be pissed!

I'm just curious a bit. Do you actually think any dealers will let you test drive this car? I mean why would they? They already have the car sold. If you say well i won't buy it without a test drive the dealer would say "o.k. see ya later, call the next guy on the list and inform him we have a car for him now!" If you test drive it then anything can happen. A drunk driver hits you, you wreck it, you get carjacked, a pedestrian comes outta nowhere and you hit them, a meteorite hits you. Or my favorite, a small animal gets sucked into the scoop and ruins the Intercooler....LOL J/K  I mean S**T happens and the dealer doesn't wanna risk it, especially with a car like this. When i bought my Type R(which was made in a lower quantity than the STI will be) i tried everything to test drive it and the dealer said no to them all. So i guess i'm asking how you will get your dealer to let you test drive this car?

you raise a good point. i wondered the same thing, but *assumed* that since i've got a deposit down for months, have been in regular communication with my dealer about the car, yada yada yada. hmmm. okay, you convinced me that all means squat.

in a way, i'm actually hoping they won't allow a test drive. it'll add to the "man, you're nuts!" factor. my friends already think i'm loosing my mind for having ordered the car and put down a deposit. adding that i didn't test drive it will be over the top. :)

ditto that! and if your dealer is one of those that puts on a dealer badge or silkscreen on the car, make sure they don't do it. man, that would be a major deal breaker for me. fortunately, all my dealer does to self-advertise is a license plate frame, which will be promptly removed when i get home. (i often wonder why people keep those frames on their car years after buying it.)

A TEST DRIVE ARE YOU INSANE!!! the dealers will never let you test drive the car. i went to the mitsu dealership to look at the evo 8 and i wanted to test drive it, but they said no because they dont want excess miles on it, so i doubt your subaru dealership will let you test drive the STi

When I signed my contract for the STi the dealer told me that it also meant that I would get an invite to come see a demo model and take it for a drive. They planned on a demo model specifically because they will not allow anyone to drive a car that was delivered for a customer, much to my satisfaction.

to wet your taste buds. STi 1/4 mile run :)

A Test drive depends on the dealer. Mine was like no problem, if you don't like it it won't be hard to sell. The next person on the list will grab it.

I was plannign on really testing it to the extreme, but remember, if you are goign to be the one to buy it, why brake it?

If the dealer is willing to use a demo model then he has some balls, because if i was him i would use that model as another one to sell. but whatever he wants

"but i have got to say thats pretty cool that you get to test drive it"

Definitely, I am going to make a visit at my dealer right after I check in here since I found out the other day my salesperson does not work there anymore. I just want to re-confirm things. Anway, I am going to tell them there better not be more than a few miles on it. It's bad enough I am paying MSRP but there is no way I would if the car has been "test driven". It better be BRAND NEW. ALSO I want to make sure they know I don't want any stinkin' pin stripes. Something I noticed first time I went to the dealer, all their Subarus had PIN STRIPES  I asked what was with all the pin stripes, but they didn't say anything. I am sure it's just a way to get a couple extra hundred dollars cause I think I noticed that on the window stickers.

If I put down a deposit on a car and I'm about to buy it, you'll damn sure get a test drive!

A demo model wouldn't be the dealer's....it would be a Subaru regional car. Just as the press has cars to test, he means they would have a car that several dealers are using to let people test drive. Such an invite might be for a few state area to let people take the car out on the track or something. It would probably be a Subaru programmed event.

My test drive will consist of an all day run at gingerman after i hit 1,000 miles and get an oil change. Thats how i test drive a car of this calibur. WORD!!

My dealer told me yesterday that they were talking about it and there will be no test drives. They do not know how they could do it since the first few cars they get are already sold. I don't really care, I drove a couple WRXs and I can't see anything being worse than that. As long as it starts up I will be happy and if anything is wrong I am sure I will know by the time I get home and will turn right around and take it back. That is what the warranty is for.

I probably won't be taking a test drive.

When I got interested in this car in January I booked a test at my local dealer in a '03 WRX Wagon. I loaded my wife and two teenagers in and imagined it would be quite a performer with 227 hp even with the extra weight. The way the hood rose up with copious throttle reminded me of a mid 60's Corvette with the small block 327 cubic inch/350 hp.

I'm sold. Try wiping the smile from my face!

Expecting delivery of blue/gold bouncing baby STi at the end of June. :)
