I'm mechincally retarded ... so anyone noticed any major difference in the engine that it would require a whole different kit for the blow off valve installation for using a 2003 BOV? HKS SSQV sounds cool and the specs write out is very attracting, less lag and extend life for the turbocharger.

Thanks

Yup. An aftermarket BOV on a stock car is needed for extra sound and making an engine run bad.

The only reason for an aftermarket BOV is to hold extra boost, which we don't have yet. And even at that, the BOV should be plumbed the same way as the stock one, with the recirc going back into the intake track.

Most people go putting BOVs on to make more noise. Venting to atmosphere, which makes this noise, is bad for an engine running a MAFS like ours.

PLEASE don't go installing a BOV because it "sounds cool". There are things you can do to the stock bypass valve that gives a great sound without the running rich problem.

Just be patient. I'm sure HKS will have BOVs for the STi soon enough, if you absolutely have to have one.

The only way to see if the WRX one will work is to physically try it out, which we obviously can't do yet. After all, they are two completely different engines...

Thats the one thing I hate about researching mods. Half the people say BOV will make you run rich...The other half are running HKS BOVs and say everything it running fine. Some people say all BOVs are bad...others say you need one that works like the HKS ssqv (pull type valve or something) and all will be good.

I was planing on putting one on my passat 1.8turbo(untill I killed it) because everyone in the VW group that were running one said they didnt have any problems, HKS said it would work on their page, and the company selling the kits had no probs in their test car.

So...WHO IS RIGHT?!?!

I have heard all the reasons why it doesn't work and all the reasons why the "pull type valve"(if thats what its called) do work. Why can't someone come up with a simple answer!

I like the sound...so there!!! :p

Liking the sound is fine, but you won't get the huge sound diff from a recirc BOV.

It will make a difference, but if you are wanting a BOV that you can hear 100 ft away, you'd have to vent to atmos, which is when the problems start.

A good replacement for the stock recirc valve would be fine. Whether it is necessary to change out the stock unit or not, we'll see. Recently the EVO guys realized that changing the stock recirc valve gained them 3 hp or something. Must have been leaking at 19 psi.
