Just installed my Whiteline sway bars tonight. 27-29mm front, 22-26mm rear. set to 29mm front and 26mm rear. Bars fit just fine, no problems at all. Have just started to feel the car out with the new bars. Also just added COBB Stage 2 and the COBB AP. I am starting over a bit with my car to get a feel for how it drives and handles now. So far the car is much flatter through the corners. I am entered in an autoX this Sunday, should get a better idea of the cars handling has changed then.

Nice, mine are on the way. How does the car react over bumps or "rippled road"? How about entering a driveway?

I ordered mine from Scott at Subaru of Gwinnett.

(“The *NEW* for '04 and to fit the '05 27-29 mm is X3006
The 22-26mm adjustable rear is BSR37XZ)
call Lisa in parts, Her number in parts is 678-584-7245
If you have an '05 please make sure that you ask Lisa for the X3006, *NOT* the X3003”

He has a thread in this forum with more info about bars.

My STI is an 05, I had no fitment issues at all. I used the OEM end links on advice from Scott since he said he has never seen a broken link on an STI. One of the best things about sway bar upgrades is that it does not affect the ride at all. can't even tell anything has changed until you get into the corners, then it's much flatter. IMO sway bars are the biggest bang for the buck you can do to the suspension with the least amount of negative compromises. I don't think stiffer springs will do as much for body control as bars will, yet stiffer springs will cause your ride to be much stiffer on all road conditions.

Forgot the Driveway issue. There is a Wendy’s that I stop into daily for my Ice tea fix, the driveway has a very large dip off of the road. Even with OEM bars on my STI lifts the right rear wheel every time I go through the driveway. I have not made my daily trip there yet, but I can say with absolute serenity that the right rear will lift. The gutter into my subdivision is pretty deep as well and I have not seen any change going through it with the new bars. The 4 wheel drive will always help with the driveway issues. I had a BMW w/out LDS with big bars and got stuck in a few driveways.

Front has gone up some since I ordered around $210 -$225 Rear $170

Did you do the install yourself? How hard is the front sway install? Regular tools will do?, ramps, jackstands? I have mine on order. I can't wait to get here.

People, please don't get taken to the cleaners! You can get the X3003 for $147.00 and the BSR37XZ for 127.00 from Renick Motorsports!

www.renickmotorsports.com

They're on the second page of the swaybar section under STi suspension.

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but to give you an idea on this - the suggested list price on the BSR37XZ is 187. A fair bit more than the 127. The 187 list price is what is on the price sheet through the only legitimate whiteline wholesale distributor in the US.

Given the buy in level to reach pricing where they can even offer the bar for 127 and still make any money I'm kinda wondering if these are grey market. If they are not then these are the best prices going for WL products that I have seen.

Yeah, I just ordered a set from them and they are on the way. Frig, all they are is bent freaking solid metal bars. $210 for a stupid solid metal bar, someone is making too much money. This also tells me that there is a *large* markup.

I really didn't want to say anything here about it, because I didn't want Whiteline or more so other distributors pissing and moaning. This happened with my S4's after market exhaust. I purchased a 3” Forge exhaust for $732 shipped from the UK (my thoughts go out to you guys in the UK). Guess what? Good old Strat decided to b!tch and now that same exhaust goes for $1000. WTF?!?

If I were you I'd delete this post.

That's great if you have a 2004 but the x3003 will have fitment issues on an '05-you'll get rubbing on the lower control arm. The x3006 is the model # for the new 27mm bar that was specifically designed to work with the '04 & '05 STi without any rubbing on the '05. I guess that probably explains why the x3003 is being offered at such a discount. ;)

Ran in the autoX today with the new bars, they made a very big difference. I was able to bring the rear end around when needed in a very controlled manner. The car handles very neutral through the corners. Yes the car will still push through a corner if you enter the corner too hot without power, every car out there will do this. Overall still the best bang handling upgrade for the money.

My car did develop a knock sound in the rear after the autoX, I checked out all the bolts on the rear bar and found the driver side end link had loosened up. It was the bolt on the suspension side of the link. I tightened it up and the knock is gone.

To answer the installation question, the rear bar can be changed with a ramp or stands very easily. The front bar is another story. I have a neighbor with a lift in his garage, he helped me change the front. I removed one front wheel, loosened the sub frame down about an 1” removed the plate that connects the sub frame to the transmission. With these items removed the bar twists out from the removed wheel very easily. The OEM bar has a couple of bends in it. When you compare the OEM bar to the new bar it makes you wonder why the OEM has the bends in it. The new bar twists into place and fits good. It definitely does not have much clearance area around the bar, but it fits well.

I guess my only small complaint is that now with the COBB Stage 2 and the swaybar upgrade I am now running in street modified which is all over the place for acceptable mods including slicks. I was running 1st and 2nd place in A stock, finished 10th overall today in SM. O well I guess it will just make me work harder.

Question regarding Whiteline mounts

TRex,

Thanks for the info on your experience on this fairly new product!

This and Scott's latest post have been pretty helpful stuff for folks like me, who are trying to move forward with the current model. I am about to spring for the same bars to put in the same car and i want to make certain of all the facts.

Would you mind clearing up some questions for me and my little mind?
  1. Did you use your stock end links?
  2. Did you use the stock mounts?
As an aside, no one currently has the big front bar for the '05 STi on their webpage (that i or Google can find). So i am writing around to see who has it and just hasn't been updating their database. I hope to get more than one answer, but so far they are agreeing with the prices you "experienced" (is that the right word? ->
Image
! ).

These are the part numbers that you gave for the 2005 STi (i hope posting these prices in a post isn't gauch):
PN ------Description --------- RaceCompEng - SoGw
X3006----Front bar 25 to 28mm - $215 ------- $215-$225
BSR37XZ--Rear bar 22 to 26mm -- $170 ------- $170

So everybodies got pretty much the same prices for this bar. I'd like to support the folks at SoGw, since Scott's been giving us the straight dope on making our cars better (Other Thread). But it still makes sense to check the prices at other places
Image
. Realistically, it's going to be pretty hard to get any price breaks on the latest bar for the latest model. Especially if Whiteline is the only manufacturer with the sweet spec's.

Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Mark

xsk8rat, Yes I did use the stock end links and mounts. The numbers that you listed are correct. The price for the rear is $170 at last I check. The price I paid for the front was $195, however Scott told me that the price was going up to around the $215 - $225 range. I would call Lisa in parts and try to get the best price from her that you can. You might tell her that I sent you and how much I paid for the front. Not sure it will help but it can't hurt. (Tell her I am the one from Utah that ordered a few weeks ago) I am not affiliated with Scott or his Subaru dealer at all. I got the same info from the thread Scott posted as well and was happy to hear about the new bars. I was just about to go with the COBB sway bars until I did some more research on hollow bars compared to solid. Again I could not be happier with the new bars. I agree with Scott about not needing new aftermarket end links, the stock end links are a great fit and good quality. After reading the thread in this forum about Hotchkis links needing to be tightened every week really makes me happy I did not waist money on new end links.

If I can help with anything else let me know.

Thanx TRex!

Thanks TRex,

Thanks for the multitudinous affirmatives. Those will be useful in the days ahead.

Just for giggles
Image
, i designed and priced a simple end-link at eMachineShop. Nothing too complex, just the 7075-Al body, no bushings and no hardware. We always complain about the prices for this stuff, but i don't really have any feel for pricing of these kinds of jobs. It turns out that the Whiteline price for two is almost exactly the same price estimate that i recieved from eMachineShop!
What a coincidence.
Image

This is the break down by quantity:
Qty --- Price -+- Shipping ------- Price Per Pair

2 ---- $121.84 + 6.80 = $128.64 = $128.64
10 ---- $193.55 + 7.05 = $193.55 = $38.71
100 --- $541.00 + 9.89 = $550.89 = $11.02

It looks like if we went in on a deal with a few (okay, a lot of) buddies, we could crank these pieces out pretty cheap. But they would be heavy and very, very ugly. :p

Good thing we don't need them!

Sincerely,

Mark

Which front wheel did you remove? Any chance it would have come out more easily the other way? I have heard of people struggling with the stock bar, but you are the first I have heard say that you needed to loosen the subframe.

The problem with the subframe is that it blocks access to the bolts that secure the bushing mounts to the chassis mounts. I loosened it down so that I could get a wrench on those bolts.
