Hey NorCalSTi - don't know which kind of detector you're looking to hardwire, but if you go onto www.Nasioc.com and use the search function you can find some GREAT instructions. Type "Valentine" into their search engine and I believe it's one of the first few results. In order to help....the STi's "switched power" wire is brown/yellow - everything else can be answered via the post on Nasioc. I hardwired my Valentine 1 yesterday on my STi.....took me about 45mins. and came out great. Hope this helps!
thanks a bunch, i am in fact using my trusted v1. that guy put together a very professional looking site for the install instructions. in case anybody else is looking to hardwire their v1, the url is http://zilch.gotdns.org/wrx/install-v1.html
it prints up in 3 pages, and seems to cover everything pretty nicely. thanks again, tim
I have a Passport 8500 that I want to hardwire. I've heard you can use basic phone cord as long as you figure out which wires to use. There's 6 contacts in the phone plug and also 6 contacts inside the Passport power receptable. How do I test to see which 2 wires are active and will complete the circuit? Also what happens if I switch the pos/neg wires on the phone jack, will I blow a circuit or will the unit just not turn on? Thanks.
Escort has a direct-wire kit available for the 8500. It has a small module with a mute button, alert light, and on light in a small module you can mount anywhere (it looks just like the smartcord included with your 8500, except without the cylindrical part that plugs into your lighter socket). The direct-wire smart cord is $30. They also sell a laser jammer that interfaces with the 8500, it's called the ZR3, and has 3 laser jammers that must be mounted under the car's bumpers or in the grill. The jammer is only sold thru dealers, but I've seen them (new) on ebay. Also check out their new G-Timer accelerometer performance meters.
