i am wondering how many of you out there plan on upgrading your sti's with custom mods when you get them. i for one value the warranty and my bank account enough that i dont think i will be doing any upgrades (unless you guys sell me on some great ones) nevertheless, i would like to hear what you guys have in mind, or don't. thanks.

Mine would be replacing a daily driver, so I need the reliability and of course don't want to void the warranty. I am getting an STi with the hope of not really needing to mod anything. After all it kind of comes modded when compared to a regular WRX. Unless there is something simple like on my Supra where I can disconnect a hose or two and get 50hp for nothing. I think mine will pretty much stay stock though.

Simple BPU bolt-ons should not void the warranty. If there is a problem the dealer has to prove it is because of the modification.

I still haven't decided between the WRX or the EVO7. To be honest I'm leaning towards the WRX because of Mitsu horror stories, and the subaru 4wd tradition. Not to mention that it's going to be a daily driver.

Either way I plan on getting some basic stuff : turbo timer, intake, turbo-back exhaust, boost controller, bov, and new turbo to IC pipe. Not all immediately or in that order but before the warranty runs out.

I understand how it works. The main thing I would be worried about is blowing the turbo, especially if it is already 18psi stock. Just about anything that increases horsepower will affect the turbo.

BTW, I forgot about a turbo timer. That will be the first thing I get. Probably get a K&N drop in too, but I think I will leave the turbo alone. Might have to rip a few of those cats off too but I will have to wait and see how that is all setup.

First Step (immediately as I get car):
Turbo Timer
Clear Bra
Put in my stereo stuff
Lightweight Flywheel (maybe- depends on lag problem)
Turbo-Back Exhaust (maybe)
Second Set of 17" with Race Tires (if I have the wheels already)

Second step: Suspension

Front and Rear Strut tower bars
Front and rear adjustable sway bars
Coil-Overs with Double-Adjustable Shocks
Adjustable Top Mounts (Camber and Caster)
second set 17" Wheels (if not done above)

Third step: Programmable Engine Management
Programmable ECU
Possibly a larger BALL-BEARING turbo
Possibly FMIC with water injection

End Result: An absolute BEAST for SCCA Solo 2 events..

This is my plan, which will take probably a few years to complete. That's how I have done my RS: one thing at a time in stages. Makes the bills easier to swallow.

I would do Turbo Timer, Front and rear strut tower bars, Cold Air Intake, and especially Turboback exaust(i mean lets face it, with emmission standards here the stock exaust is gonna suck), Blow off Valve, and of course a killer stereo. Maybe some more stuff but I just woke up so I cant think straight right now.

I forgot about a blow-off valve. That would also go in as I get the car.

I just bought some 17" wheels, so all I will need is tires for those wheels..

I am getting prepared early

To upgrade my wagon, I'd go with basic bolt ons, intake, exhaust, hopefully apexi will have somethin good by then,(they did wonders with the mkII MR2 turbo GT spec exhaust)turbo timer that works in conjunction with an alarm, I'm thinking that I like the Blitz boost controller/data mapper pair.(mild psi raise only for me) I like that if you want you can dial in the boost by psi. I'm thinking that I'd go with a hi-flow by-pass valve instead of bov. I've read some bad stories about bov's on wrx's online, I'm all about performance, not just sound, plus they say the by-pass still makes a good sound.(I hear greddy makes a good one) I'd like mine in WRBP, and then i'd like some (1)Racing Hart cp-035R's gold center, polished lip, 18's on Mich. pilots, or maybe (2)volk racing GT-N's, gold, polished lip as well. Eventually some tien coilovers, saw in a magazine about tokyo auto show, tien is making new system (that will retrofit on their suspension) that allows for onboard damping adjustment.(I assume its adjustable on the fly also) perhaps far in the future, an AP braking system, and am I the only one that would want the WRX fog lights on an STI?? other than that minor cosmetic enhancements, prodrive wing (if no wagon is available), etc.... Hey , let me dream!!!! I'm sure it'd come a little at a time, then when i finish school, get settled better, get an M5 daily driver for my wife, perhaps i'd consider more displacement, stroker kit, hopefully daily drivable 10 sec.'s without compromising twisties. Untill then I need to be able to squeak by the smog test, even if i have to spend a day with the wrenches every four years. Hell, I just need a LMP (LeMans prototype class) car!!!

First things I would do:
turbo timer-DEFINATELY 1ST THING!!
blow off valve
drop-in filter
eventually get some anthracite 17" Prodrive wheels
Clear bra
skid plate.

2nd:
Nice exhaust system that rids me of the cats or at least frees up the exhaust. I would also look into getting either a FMIC or a larger top-mounted and save the other one as a collectible or whatever.

3rd:
Probably hit the suspension to a full-coil over street suspension and less off-road (the way it is already setup). To include larger diameter sway bars and urethane bushings all around.

After that...well, I dunno. Maybe a a larger turbo and/or chip. Of course at that point I may get a larger turbo, but set the boost to stock and then wait to do more internal work.

I think over many years I would like to have the car to about 350-400hp range. Definately driveable, and of course I will do most of this post-warranty and it depends on how well I like it stock.
Cheers!

The first thing is a Turbo timer
Then after that full exhaust is getting done
After the exhaust then comes a nice FMIC(Front mount intercooler)
Followed by suspension, and well just have to see where things take us from there.

The key getting anything replaced under warranty is being good friends with the service manager at your dealership. The service manager for my Cobra told me that since I was cool and not a pain in the ass, that he would replace whatever I break under warranty once I start modding it. He told me that it is up to the Service manager whether something gets done under warranty or not. So first thing I will be doing is beoming best friends with the Subaru service manager.

Well i live in the wide open spaces of Oklahoma and we have very lax emission laws  Ill probably go for the full scooby sport exhaust upipe downpipe the whole works. Also ill probably get a cold air intake and a Unichip engine magement to make my toy use these mods to their full potential. Beyond that ill have to wait and see probably until my warranty runs out.
