I was able to get my first loan solo (age 18) through my local credit union. Being that I was a first time borrower I got hit with a high interest rate, about 13 percent. I would suggest you find the best credit union in your area and try them. Also don't start going to alot of places. They'll probably run your credit and that will show up on your credit report. Alot of hits look bad. Finally, if have have no other choice and your parents are willing to be co-singers, do it. Building good credit is the most important thing you can do. And this will help.
BTW, my FICO score is 716, a little below the national average.
And to stay on topic, $34,384.05 for me (give or take a few).
