Your dealer calls. You STi is coming at the end of the week....

BUT... It's got silver instead of gold wheels.

I told him "Then it's not my car. I'll wait for the gold wheels."

I "ordered" from this guy 7 months ago. I told him white/gold 6 months ago. I am really displeased right now... Your car's in... no it's not...

are they getting any cars with gold wheels? if so, ask if they can swap 'em; i.e. screw someone else. ;) like you, mine is going to be white/gold. i confirmed that today. however, if in the end it is white/silver and they're not willing to swap, then i'll wait for the next white/gold. we're paying too much to not get what we want. my $2e-6.

If nothing else it's the principle of the thing:

Typical Salesman (NOT Murley):

You want that car, you need that car, I know you'll buy the car even though I haven't lifted my ass off a chair in seven months to get you any information AND CALL YOU FOR INFORMATION and then didn't actually take the time to order the car you wanted cause your just an idiot that will buy whatever I put in front of you because of your stupid inbred american consumerism and insatiable desire to have an STi and also because of my mad salesmanship skills!!!! BWA HAHAHAHAHA

Me:

For $32K I should get the color I want...

Murley, perhaps you can clue me in here?

Are STi's being ordered for specific people or is SOA just dropping them off assuming the dealers will sell them?

P.S. Yeah I'm that frustrated

You seem to be running into the same deal as my buddy. As murley said the other day, if a dealer truly ordered YOUR car, you'd get exactly your car. However, if the dealer is just getting all the cars he can without attaching them to a specific sold order, you'd have a situation like yours.

I'd be very leary of having a car actually ordered for you. It sounds like he is just waiting for a car similar to what you want to show up.

(Did he ask you which options you wanted? If not, I'd go off)

No he didn't ask anything about options...

I am having trouble figuring out if its incompetence or some super sneaky underhanded way of making more money off me... I'm leaning towards stupidity, cause he isn't making more money off me, just making me pissed...

No....it's his way of trying to sell cars without ordering one for you.

Just think about it.....if he had ordered you a car, he'd have your car. He would have asked you about the dimming mirror, the armrest....all of that. But he didn't.

He is just taking whatever SOA sends his way....and he's trying to pass one off to you. I'd confront him about it and if he doesn't offer to order your exact vehicle with his next allocation, I'd find a new dealer.

The problem with that is that SOA really doesn't have a realistic understanding of how many orders there are out there! Sounds like a lot of them haven't even been submitted!

Talked to salesman again. He seems befuddled... Insists that car was ordered for me in my name... Doesn't know if they can order another in my name... duh...

I am assuming if the car was really ordered in my name and they don't sell it to me, it will be a pain in the ass / make them look stupid when they try to order another car in my name...

I am going to explore other dealers if I don't hear anything by the end of the week. Guess an STi will make a nice Christmas present :-(

First and most important thing he did wrong was to tell you that YOUR car was coming in!If it was truly your car it would match exactly what you ordered. It is ok in my opinion to call up and give you the option on that car.Shame on him!

I know it is the business person in me speaking, but didn't anyone think to get receipts or copies of the paperwork when the orders were placed. I realize the SOA is playing some games, but at least you could be able to verify what your dealer did. I have been dealing with the salesman and the salesmanager. This is a big dealership and this is a big deal for them also. They want to get it right too. But the waiting is getting to us all. He keeps telling me that my car, ordered for me, in my colors is coming. But until it shows up on the lot, the truth of that is still anybodys guess, since SOA is the one who seems to be playing the most games.SFRinNJ
