So my friend told me that he would help me put on my down pipe and rebuild my entire exhaust set up we both know how to do the work, but he has his own shop with all the equpiment. Now when I finally get my 7"5ft of walker exhaust piping from summit racing, he wants me to give him 200 bucks! Now way!! Ill but a welder and do it myself. But my question is, sorry to ramble but what type of welder do I need to do the work at home in my driveway? Is a flux better then gas? And what voltage?

good, MIG

better TIG

doable with flux core but usually ugly..

Most all things on these cars can be done with a 110volt mig welder unless your welding 1/4 and above, you really dont need 220

heck, if your really cheap.. you could braze your exhaust together with a MAPP torch and fill rod lol not sure how long that would last

OR... i remember welding a frame rail of a chevy back together with about 6 car batteries, jumper cables and some roofing nails.... got it off the trail, but ugly for sure :naughty:

...win!
If you want it done right... TIG welding is the way to go. Get some 308 wire and a miller suitcase TIG welder, with a bottle of argon, and your set. A good welder can weld all day on tubing with that right there; and you wont even know where the seam is.
