lets face it we will be every Civic owners idol :) we will have almost as big of a wing if not bigger than they have, only thing they will have bigger is the exhaust, god forbid if any forum members put on a tomato cannon..

Here comes the fun, everyone thinks ricers are slow so all friends i know with fast german cars/ fast american cars love to race people with big wings etc :)

Well I for one Cant wait for that to happen to me, oooh how id love to humiliate an expensive german car LOL :D

hmm, I dunno maybe to those who define "ricer cars" as big wing imports. The car will have plenty of bling and tons of BLAM to back it up..but my definition of a ricer is all show and no go. For example huge wing on FWD civic, sunfire, etc. Stickers like you were sponsored, LED lights everywhere, etc.

i say "yes" and "no". i don't think we'll be considered ricey, at least not by people who know even a minimal amount about the car. put another way, i doubt the sti will appear on any the riceboy" pages; a post-hoc, indirect way of assessing "riceness".

however, i will agree that there is an oblivious subset of society, of which my wife is a member, that won't know the difference. however, these people don't even know the term "rice". :)

btw, i've been wondering: are owners of riced cars offended if there cars are regarded as "riced"?? would i get punched in the nose if i approached a rice car owner and say "man that's got to be the most riced-out car i've seen in a long time."?

the sti is a huge rice mobile and the masses of these 50 states are going to be ignorant to the difference between our cars and the many hondas out there, so we'll just have a lot of explaining to do i guess.
4MLA1FN, i think most "ricers" would be offended if they heard you say that because it's a put down of them and their cars. but their our those who proudly call themselves "ricers" so i don't know.

I don't understand the obsession with rice....from either damn side of the argument.

Let's argue both here, shall we?

"Dude....it's performance stuff" - yeah yeah, okay, sure it is. The big wings and vinyl stickers...they didn't come from nowhere. Watch JGTC, or the Australian super cars....that's where the inspiration is. Now...to the same token, go laugh at the guys who are buying Dodge's with black wheels and yellow GOODYEAR spraypainted on them....or maybe the special edition Grand Prix with the NASCAR style spoiler and roof rails. All the guys are doing is (maybe) looking at the racing they love and immitating it. At least that's what the Japanese guys are doing...and then the American kids are copying them...although they may have no clue why.

And the other side.....

"Holy ish....look at all the rice!" - yup...I'm sure you've never done anything to your car that SOMEONE ELSE DIDN'T LIKE! We all have different tastes and we all laugh at other people who are still getting bowl cuts or wearing black hightops with THE PUMP on them. And now people have a specific label for other people's taste in automotive accessories? Wonderful....we may as well prosecute them for their religion while we are at it.

Either way guys....."rice" is about as stupid as you can get. Say you don't like something. Say you disagree. Say you hate a form of racing and anyone who follows it is a loser....but don't go around labeling people with some new form of automotive racism.

Only the people who spend the time worrying about and criticizing others for "rice" are worried about what others will think of the STi. Maybe my father won't like the big wing and my mom will think I'm colorblind because of the blue and gold.....but at least they aren't worried about the world considering their son a "ricer". OOOOOOOOH.

i don't mind what a car looks like, as long as it can back it up. yeah, i can't wait for the ignorant to pace me on the street, laughin and yellin "riceboy," then see their faces at the next light after i smoked dem foos. but like i said, if it's fast, i don't care if it has a picture of richard simmons painted on the side, i'll think it's cool.

This "RICED" stuff makes me laugh... It has always been my impression you called a guy that thought that BODYKIT = FAST... RICED OUT in leaning towards buying a rex/sti as a sleeper car. Nothing fancy.... down grade the flash, put a car seat in the back, with a baby on board sticker next to my Turbo on board stick in the rear window, just for fun..

This car is NOT rice! Neither is the Evo IMO.

Rice is all show..no go. Someone with a Geo Metro and a 5" tailpipe. A civic with a type-r badge, and only a k&n filter, but has chrome wheels, leds, neon, sticker galore. That's rice. Neither of these cars are rice..they are BAD MACHINES...HUGE DIFFERENCE. They are function over form. To call one of these cars rice would like calling a race Supra or race NSX, etc rice b/c it has big wings, carbon fiber, and wild paint schemes. Geesh!

Yup, yup.....and yup.

People continue to use the term rice to describe any element of the 'import style'. The term started as the looks without the performance, and now things have gone completely wrong with the term.

The ignorance of some people just steams me......

i completely agree with all this, but i think the spirit of this thread (at least my early contribution to it) is that the assessement of whether something is rice or not is in the eye (and head) of the *beholder*. the *blissfully ignorant* masses may/will think "oh man, look at that overdone scoop and wing, and bright gold brakes, and all those badges, yada yada" (the same features you can find on many "all show; no go" cars) and will consider it a joke, "all show", "rice", or whatever term you want to use. i certainly don't care in the least what they think. i suspect this is all yxan2 meant with his intial post.

yes that is exactly what I meant, you think some Random llama that works his 9-5 job and drives his stupid SUB would even notice the difference between a lowered Civic with bling bling looks over a blue WRX STi with gold rims :) hahahah I think I am going to have to defend my purchase by smoking people left and right :)

With cars like these, I don't care what others think. I mean if it was ugly as an outhouse then sure. My in-laws are really confused as to why I would buy either the STi or EVo over a BMW, especially since I can get bimmers for good prices and no tax.
