What I was hinting at that this seems to be a commercial for the us, it hasn't been on tv yet, and I'm sure it's not for the POS Lancer OZ Rally edition. Let's put this into an equation, shall we??

New Commercial
+ Not for POS OZ Rally
+ Seems to follow "tune" of thier current stuff
+ Features EVO

Hey JJ,

Since you seem to follow the EVO quite a bit, how credible are the rumors it's coming out Fall of next year vs. the rumors the STi was (coming out next Fall)? All of the rumors seem to have the EVO out first, but most of them also have the STi out just shortly afterwards (makes sense). So I'm just curious what the current thinking/rumoring is on the EVO, especially considering there seems to be some backsliding on the date for the STi (From October '02 to March '03). Has the EVO been backsliding as well?

Thanks,
Dan

A few more arguments for JJ's equation:

+ Mitsubishi's announcement at dealer meeting
+ US automotive journalists allowed to test drive the Evo VII at the Japanese debut
+ Mitsubishi bringing JDM model to the US to allow car magazines to test drive
+ Evo VII debut at the 2001 New York Auto Show

Some people will say that this was just done to sell more POS Lancers. But if you tease the US market too much with the Evo VII and never bring it over, then you are going to piss a lot people off. All over the internet (i.e. I-Club) people are bitching about how the the base Lancer isn't an Evo (duh!!) and that they will never buy a Mitsubishi again. People just don't understand that around the world there are many different models of the Lancer, not just the Evolution.

The date i have heard bouncing around for the EVO is october of '02. That date has been passed around and SCC seems to believe that is when it will be brought over too. I was looking into getting an EVO until i heard that Subbie is serious about bringing the STi to the states. I can see both cars being released in Oct. Neither company wants to get scooped by the other. It would seem that i have a whole year to scrape up a down payment for my STi, at least i have something to do while i wait.

Cheers,
Al

Dan,

I have heard Oct 02 from Mitsu dealers and of course the mags such as SCC keep saying Oct 02 as well.

How credible is the rumors? Very. Let's just say that I firmly belive it is going to be another exciting Detroit Auto Show, because I believe both Subaru and Mitsubishi are going to announce. Time to start saving.

Yep, time to start saving. That would be so cool if it really happened in October. I guess I remain a bit skeptical. When's the Detroit Auto Show?

Anyone know if Mitsu dealers are starting waiting lists for the EVO? Also, any rumors on how much the EVO's going to be detuned for the US Market? Heck, have they released it in the UK or Australia yet? I'm a bit out to lunch on the EVO, since I don't follow Mistubishi. Not that I'd ever buy a Mitsubishi. Just curious.

Detroit Auto Show is in January. I actually don't expect an announcement then, because if they release in October I expect the announcement to come more like in August/Sept. They don't want to cut into WRX sales, so it will most likely be a "surprise" announcement.

I have money on theat the STi will be here NO LATER than April 2003- possibly as soon as October 02.

This change in statements for me is due to new information gathered this weekend.

Rumor has it that the UK Evo VII will have 310 BHP, which more closely resembles the REAL output of the Japanese model.

As for the US Evo VII, it will have AT LEAST 250 HP.

Why do you say the US EVO will have at least 250 hp? To be faster than the WRX?

I'm beginning to think if they really are going to wait until October to release the EVO, they had better make it comparable to the STi, or they're going to fail. If they release it early next year, they might have a chance if it's faster than the WRX, which I'm sure it would be.

Anybody on here on a waiting list for the EVO (JJ)? I'm considering looking into it, just so I could drive both and make up my own mind. I am a Subaru person, though, and I like the Boxer, and I like reliability. Can't really see myself buying a Mitsubishi, but if I ever did, it would be the EVO.

What is the fuel tank capacity on the EVO? I read in some review it was 40 liters, but on the official EVO spec it says 48. Is it possible they would make it larger for the US market? 200 mile distance limit really sucks!

1. Do I have a deposit on a EVO VII?
No I do not.

2. Why not?
Never really thought about it, I just think the STi is an all around better car and better buy. I would even buy a WRX over an EVO because Mitsu's reliability SUCKS from what I have seen and I need a daily driver too. If I could afford a daily driver and a race car, then MAYBE I would get an EVO.

And the last reason... I don't own the http://www.lancerevovii.com website.

Everybody knows that Mitsi cars are JUNK. The material quality is horrible, and everybody I know that owns one says they will never buy one again. Dealers have also been pains about fixing these problems when they arise. Buy a subaru and support a company that can actually engineer a car.
