Wastegate muffling project

I got my 38mm EWG installed .. not tuned yet, though. unfortunately, my combination of parts (cobb catted DP, ceramic coated grimmspeed uppipe, tial 38mm wg..)didn't allow the dump tube to go by the axle like I thought, right now it's pointed right at the firewall for the passenger side.. I have a feeling I'm going to hate it when I'm able to use it.. lol :)

probably going to require some extensive customization to make it work with a muffler.. might be easier for me to route it into the downpipe, which sucks, I really didn't want to do that.

I emailed a couple of shops for a fabrication job .. at the very least I'm going to route a pipe further towards the back end of the car, but I might end up getting a small muffler thrown in, too.

I'll update this thread with whatever I end up doing just to help throw other people more information on this. my car is flashed now and I can go into boost .. good god it is f'ing loud right now, ridiculously loud, lol. I'm still glad I did it, though. it is boosting early and it is holding it strong!

I had a longer dump tube ran towards the rear of the car last weekend (no muffler), but now the car is vibrating sometimes at the lower rpms. something got screwed up. hoping to figure it out this friday.. and hoping I don't end up needing a muffler too. after all of the trouble I have to wonder if it's worth it - my tuner is adamant about not routing that back into the catback system or downpipe..

interesting, it has a very pulsey' sound. I think it'll be hard to capture the audio in a video - you may have better luck having someone record you flying by from the outside

my issue is fixed with a different hanger on the custom long dump tube, the other one was too rigid apparently. it still sounds like crap, but at least it's away from the engine bay and further behind the front seats now.

Logs show the boost is pretty much exactly the same at all intervals. No meaningful changes in any of the parameters I logged.

I enjoyed mine for a while too, but it got old. The combination of EL header and EWG is just too loud and high pitch. Coincidentally, I am also in Boulder.

That is due to the 3-port EBCS being used as an interrupt solenoid. It's just a different method of controlling boost that causes the, "flutter" noise. The solenoid repeatedly opens and closes the wastegate to control boost. That is how it sounded before the muffler as well, just at a higher pitch and much more irritating. I will do some more logs when I get back to my car (I am out of town) and update you guys. I will also try to get more videos.
I have a grimmspeed 3 port ebcs on mine and it doesn't seem to pulse as noticeably as yours. it definitely has some flutter, but not as distinguished as yours. I was attributing that to the muffler you added.

Here's my Tial MVR EWG exhaust with a SuperTrapp SC Elite tuneable muffler on my XTI Manitou's 2006 XTI/ Horse Power Techs built, Junior Tuned results - NASIOC. I did this exhaust last year for my 570WHP XTI. It really works great, very stealth and it does not leave any power on the table. It holds boost dead flat to redline, is very quiet with the dump behind the cabin and the ST muffler is tunable. The SC Elite which is all 304 SS, has a rebuild-able/ repack-able perf'd core and comes with 12 discs. I added 6 more to open it up some and it's still very quiet.

And a launch video i did to hear how it sounds from the outside.

You can hear the gate open from inside the car if you know what it sounds like but passengers who don't know i have an external gate can't really tell.
very nice. thanks for sharing!

I'm at a point where I have the extended dump tube ran kinda close to where yours leaves off at.. but it's still open pipe. It's still too loud, but I love the performance benefits of the ewg too much to remove it.

I can either A: supertrapp or B: merge it into my catback between the resonator and the mesh.. I am torn between what to do though. no backpressure issues with your supertrapp eh?

ghetto pic of mine so you can tell about what area I'm talking about .. (if I did the supertrapp I'd have to have the dump tube altered slightly too):
