I just got off the phone with a guy at the Bob Baker Subaru dealer in Carlsbad Ca. He said that Subaru hasnt decided when they are going to release the STi. I asked him if I could get on the waiting list, he told me it was too early for that. Im confused. Some of you have gotten on waiting lists right? Is this a dealership that is out of the loop? He did say that when the STi gets there, there will be NO DEALER MARK-UP

Does anyone know of a cali dealer that has a list going?

Some dealers have waiting lists, others don't. I'm on the list at one dealer, but want to make sure I get one. Stopped at another dealer last night and asked them to start a list. They said they would, and took down my name.

I can't imagine why any dealership would not be willing to start a list. What does it cost 'em? A piece of paper and a little ink. What do they have to gain? A future sale...

Yeah, I went to one of the biggest Subaru dealers in the Chicago area to inquire about the STi and a waiting list. They basically laughed at me till I said I would get on one of the other dealer's waiting lists that have one. Then one of the salesmen filled out one of those little forms with my name and number and said I would be the first one he call when they hear anything or start a list. I am going to stop in there again this weekend just to show my face so they don't forget about me. When I get some time I might just stop by a few of the other local dealers and see if they have a list or heard anything cause I don't want to risk not getting one either.

I also went to the dealership that I had called. Saturday was a beautiful day in California, and it was a perfect day to test drive a WRX. Even though its not an STi, it was fun as hell to drive. Nothing like hitting 80mph in third gear.

I met with a salesman, and he took my name/number and said that he was going to talk to SOA on monday then give me a call... Well today is monday, and im still waiting. It will be tits to have one of the first STi's to hit the market.

What sort of troubles do you see? Just wondering what I haven't thought of...

With emmissions, lets say they cant get the STI to pass tests to make it a worth while car? It wont come here. You know, and then they have a bunch of ppl upset at them. Theres alot of risks about taking a deposit on a car that hasnt officially been declared in production yet. just my 02 cents worth

It was at Subaru of Schaumburg. They sold a lot of WRXs so I figured if anyone gets an STi they would.

True - people might be upset if the car doesn't come over, but that'd be totally out of the dealers hands.

I didn't say anything about a deposit, just a list. I'm on the list at 2 dealers with no deposit. But if the car doesn't come over the dealer should refund the deposit (with interest IMO) immeadiately.

Not trying to start a war by any means. Just have a good discussion about it...

Or you could do what JJ did. His dealer has a check that won't get cashed until a certain number of weeks before the car is guaranteed to arrive at the dealer, iirc. But he can explain it better. Also, he's getting MSRP for it even though there's no set price yet. Pretty sweet deal, if you ask me.

I decided today that I was going to call them up every morning at 8am.
"Hey, did you get the STi in yet?"

"Mornin, heard anything about the STi?"

"Hi, its Chris, calling about the STi, what have you got for me?"

"Tell you what, have a black STi in by tomorrow morning or else Im going to date your daughter, and you will never get rid of me. Oh, and I drive a van."
