STi Import

I got back from lunch with my friend, walked to my car, and someone had remover my right mirror. Then i took off home, and ran over glass (luckily it didnt puncture the tire). WTF is up with some high school kids. So immature. Anyone else have there car vandalized? The school says they cant do anything about it, same with police. Anyone know where i can get a camera for my car? Im gonna find out who keeps doing this and put an end to it.
(I dont mean to be a flamer, just a little mad)
Thanks for your help.

Man, sorry to hear that. Punk kids. Check out x10.com they sell all kinds of cameras (wired and wireless). Some transmit directly to TV's so you can catch'em in the act. Most of the camera's are black and small.

I got a key broken in my driver side door lock last Halloween.

I thought about the camera idea myself. Then somehow have it transmit as a web cam and then I could log on the page anytime I want from anywhere and see what's going on. The problem with the camera is the power source.

I did the next best thing and got one of those pager type alarms that page you when the alarm goes off. It is also a remote starter too. It works pretty far unless you are in an interior room of a large building like where I work. It might work at your school though. One nice thing is the first time it is set off it only beeps a couple times, so it might not scare the assholes away, but it will set your pager off so you know and can go out and "deal" with them. If they do something again though then the alarm goes off. Anyway, it might be a good option for you, next best thing to the camera. I will definitely get one when I get my STi.

MKIVSupra, use the cars battery. it wouldnt ever deplete it unless you didnt drive it in the winter and left the webcam on. what about the transmitter? i know it could be routed to a laptop w/ a wireless 128k modem, but if you were in a parking garage it wouldnt work, but worth the investment to me. if you could cut out the laptop alltogether that would make it so much friendlier to the wallet.

as a side note, i saw a 95 accord last night with AT LEAST a 17" flat panel screen in the passanger side last night. i was horrified. it was as big as my monitor. what is wrong with the Thugs??? 20" "B-L-A-D-E-S" on the danm thing. i mean, a sh!t brown 95 accord w/ freggin 20's and a 17" flat panel.....AHHHHHHHHHHH... my head still hurts from the obscene amount off bass w/out treble.

I should have said that I meant powering the whole setup. I just don't think the whole thing would be easy or cheap. Plus like my remote starter/alarm, you would be limited with the range. Otherwise you would have to have something nearby recording.

Maybe that was a laptop you saw in that accord and the guy had it hooked into his engine management system so he could tune it. :D

Well, I got an estimate of the only setup for a car, Its damn expensive too.
This is in U.S. currency
12vCamera w/ motion detector $199
kleenex hidden box transmitter thingy $99
12v VCR to record happenings $250

My supra is definately not worth that. Id rather watch it get torn up then pay that kind of money.
Thanks MKIVSupra, Could you lead me to where I can get one of those, sounds pretty nifty.

Speaking of starters and alarms... and rally cars

I am not sure where a good place is to get one. They had one at the place I had a lot of work done on my Supra and gave me a good deal on it. It looks like there is a newer version out of the one I have, here is a link to the company's website... http://www.compustar.org There are ones with a remote starter and ones without. I wanted a remote starter for my Legacy and heard there can be problems getting the factory alarm to work with a remote starter, so I went with an alarm/remote starter and really like the features of this one. I think I am going to get just the pager alarm without the starter for my Supra.

BTW, I live on the 9th floor of my building and park 2 floors underground in the garage and I can start my car! I see the new spread spectrun ones work up to 6000 ft! Damn! Mine I think is only rated at 2000ft. I also see some option called Turbo... I wonder if that means it has a turbo timer or will work with one.

MKIV Supra. first off, that would be the newer body style? and secondly, do you like the fact that the supra lives on in the lexus IS? if you didnt know let me explain. the L6 in the supra is the same as in the IS300, as well as the 5 speed, and i'd bet money the suspension is nearly interchangeable. TRD is releasing the turbo kit/ model soon i hope. imagine a 1200hp Lexus IS.... OMG. i wish toyota would release the altezza, then all the riceboys would learn where the "altezza" style lights came from, and that ONLY the factory can do it right.

1. how much was the remote start/alarm?
2. what model? the 2WSS?
3. did you install it/see it installed?
4. and if so, was it easy?

What would be the newer body style? My Supra or the alarm? My Supra is. My alarm no.

I don't mind. In fact, last I check the inline 6 is used in the GS300 also. One difference is the VVTi techonology or whatever it is. You could not get that in the Supras sold here. Now the NA 6 compared to the twin turbo 6 is a another story. There are some differences with those 2 engines. The 5spd might be the same as the NA Supra, but the TT Supra has a 6spd. The suspension might be the same also with the NA Supra, but not the TT. Hmmm, where is this going? Where did it even come from? :-? Yeah an altezza would be nice over here. I would rather have an STi here though :) Until a new Supra comes out I don't care what they do. Right now I am hoping for an STi.

Ok, let's see. I paid $400 installed for my alarm/starter setup. Since I got mine a couple years ago and the models have changed, I think mine would be comparable to the 2WFM. They did not have the spread spectrum one when I got mine. I walked in every once in a while to see how things were going, but I did not sit and watch the whole thing. The guy who did it said it was real easy. Subaru had everything marked real good under the dash. Of course this was installed in my 98 Legacy GT.

Any other questions, let me know.

alright, i know its not like the TT, but that will be coming shortly i hear. most of the parts in L6 NA should be in the TT, minus things like pistons and cams ect. your the toyota man here so you'd know better than i. but its seems to me that the IS/Altezza is the replacement supra or rather, the supralite. i didnt know about the 6spd but shoulda figured since toyota owns.

i like the supra, but i dont see a new one in the works anytime soon. i want an entirely new pony car from toyota. i bet it will be based on the next camaro/firebird platform. GM and toyota are bedbuddies ya know. on that note, i see a turbocharged camaro coming down the works. chevy JUST released the bel-air concept w/ a turbocharged 5cyl, i bet that gets changed to the L6 that is in the trailblazer. that motor is probaly identical to the supra TT motor except for the internals, so if ya add a turbo it should be at par with the supra TT. now where did that come from/where the hells it going?

I think the Altezza is more of a Supra light. So far up until this year you could still get a Supra in Japan.

Yeah unfortunately I don't see one in the near future either that is why my sites are set on an STi right now. I will be keeping my Supra at least till a new better one comes out or someone wants to buy it and throws some crazy amount of money at me. I am hoping that since the 350Z and RX8 are coming out Toyota will step up to the plate with a new Supra... a TT V8 with AWD would be nice :D My guess right now is since the current Supra was similar in body and engine to the SC300, maybe a new Supra will be based off the new SC430... make it a hardtop, flare the fenders out, and throw some turbos on the engine. I will have to keep dreaming though.

I don't know about a turbo camaro. Isn't GM discontinuing that. I would like to hear all the fbody fans if they put a 6cyl turbo in the Z28. I would be suprised to see a sports car from Toyota with GM influences. Man that's scary even thinking about it. I would like to see something from Toyota though. Hopefully, like last time, Toyota is waiting to see what everyone releases here and then will come out with something better.

dude, the toyota line is already half chevy and vice versa. they are sharing MANY ideas.

6cyl camaro, only if turbocharged stock. ala pontiac TTA and buick GNX. both are 9 second cars with just the touch of a tuner and minor mods. i work at a print shop and we print a buick racing news letter every quarter and he owns a 9 second w/ a/c on GNX. it looks totally stock and drives like a daily driver.

yes they did kill the camaro, but only to make people want it again. and GM put a LOT of time into that new L6 that whores toyota influnce, and i'd like to see it in more than the trailblazer. it has 273hp NA out of 273ci. throw a turbo on that and youll push 350 easy. a very good motor that is made to be easy to mod.

I know Toyota and GM share some ideas but am not aware of any real GM influence in Toyota's vehicles, Toyota in GM yes, but not GM in Toyota. I could be wrong cause until I hear of a new Supra, I am not really following what is going on with the other vehicles. Right now I need a fun daily driver and am following Subaru more.

Yeah, I forgot about the T TA and GNX, both were the fastest production vehicles made at the time they were produced. A new Syclone or Typhoon would be nice too. Almost got a Typhoon if it wasn't for the rediculious prices they were asking at the time. Glad I waited and got my first Supra instead.

273hp out of that 6cyl... yup, that sounds like Toyota influence to me :)

F-bodies are all body on frame cars right?? Toyota is all unibody to my knowledge as far as cars go. Does the I6 in the trailblazer have OHC's? It seems like GM hasn't imagined that any american car that has 6 cylinders or more can sell with DOHC's. Pushrod power is their slogan!! (yes i know the aurora had a dohc v8, it flopped.) even in the vette, ZR1 had dohc's, no longer though.... imagine what they could get from a Z-06 if the used dohc's. Or am I grossly mistaken???

At any rate, what we need here in USDM from toyota is an altezza with 3SGTE power!!!!! 2.0 litres of bliss... Shame we can't have it.... Gone are the days of all trac celica's. maybe we can get a new 3SGTE in the AWD Matrix!! That would kick @$$!!!!! .....That's what i need, a JDM 3SGTE, 2.2 stroker kit from JUN, & TRD 2000gt body kit for my MKII hardtop MR2. ......oh, and add a quaife sequential 6 spd to my wish list!

Reverse Indiglo Gages

Fbods are unibody. the I6 has dohc as well as most of their 4 cyl motors. pushrods offer a few benifeits that few note. a pushrod is a cheap and easy part to repair, and would most likely fail first saving you many dollars on a new cam/head. at the cost of our variable valve timing... mmm. a CVVT (nissans continously variable valve timing) 305 (88 IROC-Z camaro)... man i could get some serious hp if i threw in some compression and a supercharger. gotta love the low psi, very lil chance of that being the part that kills your motor. its really about heritage and production costs. a OHV motor costs less to make than a DOHC. period. and please remember. i am getting a new Z, so i LOVE DOHCs...and OHVs i have both the aformentioned IROC and a 78' Dodge lil red express.

anyone ever heard of a twin cammed pushrod motor? one for intake and one for exhaust? theres quick and easy variable valve timing.
