Before you continue to read or respond, please be respectful of my choice in BOV/BPV/etc. I've read a ton of forums and how some people go on a witch hunt when it comes to using a BOV.
I know what type of coffee I like to drink, so therefore I won't tell you how to drink yours.
I need help and input with this..... here goes.
I have a 2013 STI Sedan.
Mods for now are Cobb V3 AP, DownPipe, SPT cat back, and the basic OTS maps per their website.
I wanted to upgrade to the Tial Q 50mm BOV w/10 psi spring. I purchased the Torque Solutions adapter flange, recirc billet plug, and the valve from Import Image Racing.
I asked one of their reps about using this on my car with my current mods. One of the guys mentioned this was the same spring he used on his car that was set up like mine and I should be fine. He recommended the 10psi spring based off my vacuum reading.
I read before and after at -9.78 on the AP for vacuum. I'm not exactly sure where it reads from (MAF, etc.) To my understanding this would convert to 20-21 inhg.
I took the car out for a drive after it warmed up and seemed to drive fine. Once I took off, I hit boost. No sounds of surging, sputtering, and also no sound of VTA. I did a U Turn and that's where the trouble started. The car died out on me. I started it back up and drove towards the house.
I hit WOT to my shift light and into third, then let off and shifted normally.
When I hit WOT, I could hear the BOV opening up, but extremly quick in between the shifts.
when I pulled into the garage the car was hesistating to get on.
Now keep in mind, I traveled a distance of maybe 1.5 miles at most.
I got out of the car and could smell something...... something I've never smelled before. It kinda smelled like raw fuel or something metallic that was burning.... I have no idea what it was.
I haven't had a chance to drive the car since then, but I'm wondering if I need a different spring for this valve in order for it to work properly.
May I please have your input with how you guys/gals may be using this valve with your cars?
Dave
