First, I apologize if this has been asked and answered, but I searched for good hour and could not find the right combination to get an answer. (I hope this isn't a total noob obvious answer question.)

I notice when ordering parts (especially from Subaru or japanparts) a bunch of the parts are listed as compatible with VA chassis. That makes sense, I can read a VIN and get that.

But, what is the sub-designation is see, and how does one decode that? For example...

VAB, or VAG, or VAF?

Does it change by year? region? and where can I find that specific info for my car?

Thanks for the help.

I believe it's based on the chassis & engine:

VAB = WRX STI w/ EJ20

VAG = WRX S4 w/ FA20

VAF = WRX STI w/ EJ25

Thank you. It’s been driving me nuts trying to figure it out. The Newbie abbreviation section of this site has all the G cars, but no VA.

I’m new to the Subaru world so trying to play catch up. (If we were talking Mustangs or Foci, I know all about those) But feel like the slow kid in class in the Subi world. Slowly figuring it out....

Thanks for the help.
