I don't know if it's just me but my V1 seems to give a lot of false laser warnings in my STi. No more than I start it up and am sitting there letting her warm up and my V1 goes off with a laser warning and then a few times while driving it in the middle of no where. During my daily commutes in my Legacy it does not do this.

Anyone else notice this?

In my 02 WRX, I have noticed false Laser warnings when directly behind newer Chevy vehicles, particularly the Trailblazer. Apparently there is a laser emitting device on these vehicles tied to the brake lights. I notice it only when directly behind them at a stoplight. As soon as they let off the brakes - the laser warning is gone.

Yeah, it's not even LED brakes that do it. I was at a new traffic light the other night and got it from the bright red lights. But the third brake lights on several cars has set mine off.

If you aren't around any light sources.....that's interesting. All cases of my laser have been near a source of intense light of some sort.

I get false laser alerts every time I pull up behind a car with the "neon" 3rd brake lights or pull into stores with red neon signs in the windows (like bars). However, I usually see the source soon enough, and real laser warnings have already saved me from a few tickets.

My V1 has had two Laser warnings since I installed it last week. They both seemed to be from brake lights. The X band is always on. A cement truck and a dump truck have even set it off with their perimeter radar sensors.

There should be a law that says all non traffic radar has to be X and police cannot use X band. OK that won't happen.... :x

It did save me from an instant on Ka band this morning. I felt like I needed to write into the website with a first hand experience of how the V1 paid for itself or something.

The real story is how I convinced my wife to buy the V1 for Father's day!

On another issue, I learned recently the MN has a traffic law restricting the mounting of anything (especially radar detectors) on the windshield. Other than that they are supposed to be legal.

I got a lot of X band in regular mode, but it is filtered pretty good in the advanced logic mode (the big "L").

I seem to recall hearing from someone that new car MFGs will be putting brake light laser emitters on new cars. Apparently the intent is that if you are right behind someone and they hit the brakes, you should too. If there is a computer controling your brakes, then in theory it will begin stopping the car sooner and therefore reduce accidents. I personally think it is a bad idea. If someone in front of me on Interstate taps the brakes, I don't want my car to unexpectedly go full on the brakes. That would scare the crap out of most people and may cause some to swerve - causing an accident instead of preventing one. Has anyone else heard this too?

Car ahead of you makes your car automatically hit your brakes. The 1985 Trans Am behind you, which has no such system, slams into YOU. Great idea!

I'd be surprised if something like that were ever put on the market. The liability problems are huge. Unfortunately, here in DC/VA radar detectors are illegal. Hmm, where can I get a remote mount....

Yeah I get the bake light thing with my V1 but now in the STi it seems to be going off A LOT. I noticed when I am in my parking garage at home or work and start the car up and sit for a bit to let the engine warm up, my laser warning goes crazy... on and off every couple seconds and then eventually staying on. It drives me crazy. Now I seem to be getting more false signals. This sux cause I am not trusting it now and the cops around here are starting to use laser a lot now. I might have to send it in and get it fixed or something. It fell off my windshield a couple times due to the suction cups giving and I think the last time might have done something to it.

OK I have to bring this topic back up. Now that I have broken my STi in and have done a few WOT runs, my V1 goes off with a laser warning a lot now.

Whenever I am in a parking garage the laser warning goes on and off constantly, sometimes staying on. EVERYTIME I accelerate hard it goes off which scares the crap out of me sometimes cause right when I hammer on it I think a cop is nailing me with radar. Then sometimes when I decelerate, mainly letting the engine do the braking it goes off. Only laser warnings but still now I don't what is a real laser and what isn't. Plus the laser warning overrides the other band warnings. I am thinking it might be a problem with my unit. I have been wanting to upgrade and get the smaller one anyway, this might be a good reason to now.

Anyone else have this problem?

They are basically the same layout but in a smaller case. I went and entered my serial number and it told me a couple things that have since changed and one was the smaller dimensions.

Hmm...that's news.

Let us know what you hear from V1....I'm kinda worried about this. I'm hoping this isn't something that gets added to the list of cars that can't use radar detectors

- Cars with metallic coatings
- STis....not sure why, but it's just FUBARed
