Hey folks - hoping to get some feedback on something here. I've had a deposit since January with a dealer in CT, who has treated me VERY WELL during all communications. Problem is, his first allocation (June) doesn't have my black/silver coming in, and he has no idea when that will come in. It could be late June, July, August, only God and SNE know. Now the situation....there's a black/silver STi offered for MSRP less than 3hrs away from me that's coming in June and could be mine. You guys seem to be a level-headed, fair group of people.....is this a crappy thing to do w/my salesperson? (back out on an order so I can get the car faster). If my guy could tell me it was coming in July, or even August, I'd probably wait it out.....but the possibility of passing on this car, and not taking delivery till August or (God forbid) September, is killing me. Please sound off!

Well, that's a difficult questions to answer. From my perspective, I'd say to go for the one that is 3hrs away ONLY if there is no way that they can find out when your's is comming. I don't see why they can't find out, though. If it were me I would do whatever it took to find things out for you...

I wouldn't let you go somewhere else. I do what it took to get it figured out.

Thx Murley - I appreciate your feedback tremendously (especially being that you're in the biz). I feel REALLY badly about this. My guy has been great - very honest and I've always been very comfortable with him. I don't believe that his lack of knowledge is due to a lack of effort on his part, just SNE's vague delivery system. (from what I've been able to ascertain). Anyone else feel like adding their .02? I was sure there must be more folks out there (espec. in this area) who find themselves in similar situations......

any scoop on New England deliveries???

Go for it. If your dealer respects your situation he shouldn't mind you getting it elsewhere. Granted he is losing your business, but he also can't sell what he doesn't have. And he probably has other people waiting so it's not like he's not going to sell the car. You can always make it up to him by purchasing your next [after the STi] car from him.

Maybe your dealer could make a trade with the other dealer that has the car in stock.
If they can not find out a date for you I would go get it now. I love mine and did drive to the next state to get mine.

BTW the next state is only 20 miles away.

Yo I did the exact same thing my man. My dealer had my deposit since dec. and they still can't tell me when my car is coming in. So i went and got on a list at another dealership. My car came in today(2 weeks before their pipeline report said it would). I pick it up Monday BABY!! So go and get that one 3 hrs away!! Peace!!

I had two deposits down at different dealerships. I asked for my deposit back after my white/silver came in at one and the other dealer had no idea when it was coming in. The dealer was very nice about it and gave me back my deposit no problem. They know it is a supply and demand business. I even gave him a ride after i got it from the other dealership.
