The placement of the feet are correct. I used a clip that hooks through the outside of the factory mount and comes up on the inside of the rain gutter. This also eliminates theft problems that you mentioned. You can pry all you want and it wont come off.

I have carried a recumbent trike thousands of miles on it with no problems.

Are these still being made? I'm very interested in getting a set of the brackets so I can have a solid mounted rack.

Just ran across this thread after tons of searching to try to find a cleaner rack mount.

I'm just so surprised racks are held down with such little bolts M6 - and only 1 at each point. I like the look and low profile, but often carry heavy or wind catching items.
