I aplogize if this has already been mentioned, but I just got back from the UK and in the January edition of Car they have a test drive on the Jap sti.
They are saying the twin scroll turbo is staying in Japan. the UK car will have 265hp, 253lb/torque 0-60 5.4 6 speed, better cooling, more rigid front suspension. Jap car has 280hp, 291lb/torque, nitrided crank, balanced pistons, twin scroll turbo, 8,000 redline, stiffened linkages, new geometry, revised damping. Wider diameter steering rack giving more neutral handling. In Japan thee is also a type C sti which has an even faster spining turbo and about 265lb less weight. 0 - 60 in 5.0 or less.
On the body front the new Sti has new hood, wings, headlights, rear lamp cluster and huge trunk spoiler, redesigned instrument cluster and smaller momo steering wheel.

I have heard the rumor that the twin scroll turbo and the AVCS among other things were staying in Japan for now. Needless to say the disappointment will be HUGE if this is true. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

My heart sank when I heard this news. I am hoping that it is bologne, but until Subaru releases the official specifications it is all just speculation.

I have also heard that the specs that we may get in January (in Detroit) will be preliminary and subject to change.

they also said that they were going to offer the 300 hp performance pacakge for UK buyers to tune it.

If all the goodies dont make it over to the US i might just skip out on the STi all together and wait until a real drivers car hits the Market that hasnt been compromised :)

I think Subaru will debut the STi in the NA market with a bang - I think it is in their best interest to bring all the "go-fast" goodies with the STi due to entrenched sport-compact competition and "more-power" attitude of Americans and Canadians. My prediction - the STi will come with the new 2.5L turbo, DCCD as an option, no twin scroll, and no AVCS. The car will be running at least 280 hp to surpass the EVO VIII.
If we get the watered-down UK spec STi with only 265 hp, then I might get my deposit back, keep my '02 WRX, avoid going into huge debt to buy the STi, and save up my money until Subaru decides to bring a "fuller" version of the STi to our market. Why the hell would be pay over $50,000 Canadian (or 32 to 35K American) for a car that has so much more potential. I might wait to it comes from Subaru as a beast.

Sorry for mis-directing everyone. I heard this from what turns out to be an unreliable source. At the time I thought the source was in the know, but Subaru has kept a lot of people guessing, whom I thought would have been leaked a little bit more of the truth by now.

Again, I will say I have been told by a source that has spent considerable time with the car, "You will NOT be disappointed". I am going to sit back and relax because this person knows that I am looking for a rocket ship of a car with dream like handling. This individual would lose their job if they leaked any details, enough said.

Sit back and relax guys and wait for Subaru to release the details when they are ready.
