Tuner told me a stage 2 STi will last me forever. True?

Hey so I was talking to my tuner about going stage 2. Im talking about a full exhaust (tbe,dp,header, uppipe, ewg) and intake. My tuner has a stage 2 gr sti pushing 22psi, so im sure he is familiar with the sti platform. He said that a stage 2 sti will last me forever.

But is that true? I was under the impression they will last a long time (50-55k) and then eventually go out. I just need some clarity.

Personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

it REALLY depends. Is he talking stage 2 OTS? A stage 2 protune would be much better option as it will be better for YOUR specific car/climate/engine. Also, how long the car will last will depend heavily on how you treat it. How you drive, how you maintain it, if you inspect it mechanically regularly, datalog regularly, it could last a while. You MAY run into some ringland issues, which may or may not have to do with the tune. Sometimes it just happens. It's hard to say really. No situation seems to be the same with each person and their STI. We all hope for the best, but most expect the worst and put some cash aside for an engine rebuild if they are planning on modding+tuning.
Could have two identical stage two cars, and one may last 200K miles and the other may lose a piston at 20K miles. All depends on how you treat it, and how your luck is.
It won't. The only way it'll last forever is if you use leprechaun piss as fuel, unicorn blood as oil & have Jesus Christ himself tune it for you.

also keep in mind...'forever' is a very subjective term for a car....what does it mean....5 yrs? 10 yrs? 20 years? in reality no car lasts forever so the short answer to your question is NO it will not

Even stock STI's have a lifespan, adding more power to the system will shorten it even if it is only slightly shortened lifespan.
Depending on the tuner, one could expect ANY tuned motor to last between 10 and 100,000+ miles.

Its a gamble you take with your finances lol.

My stage 2 tune did in fact not last forever.. Piston problems.. I did know about the leprechaun piss as fuel, and have Jesus Christ himself tune it for you. I was lacking the unicorn blood as oil.. Now I know the winning combo, that's what the new motor will get..

^^^ I just about died laughing reading that
Honestly, it depends, I've seen bone stock sti's blow rings at 5,000 miles, then i've seen 400whp ones last 40,000 miles without a problem. Just be prepared to do a build in the worst case scenario.
honestly it all comes down to the car it self. 2 identical cars could be stage 2 with the same tuner, same mods literally same everything. both daily driven both maintenance done on a regular basis. 1 can last 100k and 1 only last 10k. every car is different.

my regret was not getting a protune after going full TBE instead I went with the OTS tune. not sure what was the factor but my engine blew at the track(sad day I tell you). but since you are modding be prepared for a motor but then again your engine may last a 100k.
Depends on how good your tuner is, if there is no detonation or abnormal fuel issues, then it should last a longgggggggggggg time

Synthetic diamonds are forever....and cheap to boot ;)

He was talking about a Stage 2 protune. What would you consider lasting "a while"?

Well yea that goes without saying but if you want to put a number, lets say 100k miles.

Lol, how many miles did you get before it took a dump? Any other info id appreciated it if you dont mind.

This is true, sorry about your incident. How many miles did you go before it gave out on you?

How long would you say is a long time?

I appreciate everyone info, its really helping. Just debating my initial setup. I might just go with a dp and axleback.

Until 5 billion years from now when the Sun becomes a red giant. Boom.

OP, if you get a good tune you should be fine. There are no absolutes with cars though, especially modified ones.
I'm stage 2 and about to roll 100k and running good. But not all stage 2 cars will see this mileage on one motor.
These engines are mass produced on an assembly with acceptable tolerances that are not quite the most stringent. Therefore, minor mechanical discrepancies make each one like a human's heart, body, and health. UNIQUE. Thus the reason many go for a protune to try to squeeze more power and have a more reliable tune. However, like every have been saying, forever is a vague statement and probably used more so by your tuner as an encouragement for a tune rather than OTS. I personally am running stage 2 OTS with money aside waiting for a forged internal rebuild. Keep in mind that no matter what power enhancement mods you perform, you are putting more strain on some engineered weak point and it will eventually fail
a good protune from an experienced tuner like EFI, solid maintenance upkeep and being mindful of driving the car correctly (not doing pulls in higher gears) should net you a solid lifespan.
