Compromise...

There's apparently no way to lock the trunk pass through...I called the dealership and one of the sales guys checked and there is no lock, no latch...nothing. So if I were to use valet (which would be very very rare for me anyway) the valet key won't open the trunk or the glove compartment (and you can cancel the trunk release lever) but you can still access the trunk from the pass through. The sales guy suggested that I drill a hole and loop something to make my own lock. Well, guess I won't be leaving my snowboard in there for too long. I guess hiding the loop is all I'll do for now.

Yeah, I had a problem with that trunk pass through thing too, but then I realized I still could transport my snowboard AND 3 other people. Besides, I plan on getting a snowboard rack anyway. Still, the trunk pass through ought to lock...but if I really wanted the extra cargo space I'm sure someone would just say why didn't I get the wagon.

Subaru did not make the entire rear seat fold on the sedan because the rear seat area is structural and helps to stiffen the entire chassis. If you drive a sedan and a wagon back to back, you will notice the difference. This is why many people install a strut tower brace in the wagon, which seems to be couter-productive because now you have a bar going across the center of the cargo area with the seats folded forward.

All the dealers have been saying that

Does the STi have a trunk pass through also, then? I was thinking you could make a structural frame right behind the rear seats so that you could have them fold down. If the STi has the pass through...hopefully they'll put a lock on it. Then again, I don't even use valet with my civic, so I'm not likely to trust one with an STi

What I meant was like a structural ring or something like that. Wouldn't that be feasible? Oh well, whenever I get my STi I'll put a roof rack on that as well. Keep the WRX as my commuter car (dare I say thrasher car? well not quite...) and the STi as my weekend car
