I was looking at the results for the Monte Carlo rally race and they said that Tommi Makinen had won for Subaru. He's been a long time Evo driver and I was wondering if anyone knows why he switched. Did he realize that Subaru makes a better car?
I saw most of the 2001 WRC events as they played out on the tube. During one of the breaks the commentator asked Tommi some thing about his future with Mitsubishi. I remember Tommi saying something along the lines of if he stayed or left it would be because of his own motivations. What that meant, who knows? I do remember this was after he started driving the new Lancer WRC. He was having all kinds of problems with it. Now he's driving for Subaru and kicking butt.
I think it's all about money. If I were a rally driver I would drive for the team that I could make the most money out of. It's as simple as that.
(Then I'd use the money to BUY the cars that I love to drive.)
