what were ur reasons for picking the sti over other cars?, what cars did u consider when buying? and what was (is) most important to u in the sti and do u feel u made the right pick?

i'l go first, I bought a blue/sliver sti, sorry haven't posted pics yet, (plan to after mods) I compared it to the evo, 350z, rx-8, and r32 golf. first of all the r32 was out because it dosen't fit my style, the 350z was not practical enough, and i had the hardest time picking between the evo and the sti, but because of the poor quality paint, bad service, and tranny issues it has, i was not going to buy a new car and then pay a extra 2-3 grand to replace a broken tranny, i did like the looks of the evo, but changed my mind after comparing it to a regular lancer, (look too much alike). also i wanted a sunroof, but thought that since my other car is a rsx-s, i thought i don't need it in this car. Yes i admit that the evo can handle better then our sti at the LIMIT, but what good i handling when u can't even move because of a bad tanny. wit some sti lowering springs the sti will be just as good. The thing that sold me most on the sti was the attention to detail, such as the awsome shift light and sound warning, it's the coolest thing ever. Plus not to mention the look on peoples faces, when i tell them that it's a 4 banger making 300 hp.. i'm glad i waited for this car and feel i made smart move by picking this car over the evo. in fact the hardest part of this was picking the color, i loved the white/sliver, but my dealer had a blue/sliver, it blow my mind. the pictures don't do any justice to the color, it is by far one of the best colors ever. Plus it attracts soo much attention. (not that the other colors are bad, they are just as good, but for me it's the blue). I have many mods planned, but i will begin wit a dvd/nav unit and the hks camp system. Ps, i also love the way my interior and exterior match. And on a side note, does anyone here actually fallow the wrc rally on speed?
also, my wife is going to get a white sti, but she is still unsure

Well, enough about my car, let's hear ur reasons, etc

Makes my girlfriend, uhm. . . .. well, let's just say she loves it. ;)

I test drove:

S2000
RX-8
350Z
STi

S2000 was more of a dream. As a daily, it just was NOT practical.
RX-8 had no low end torque (neither did the S2K) and it was very smallish
350Z had real potential, but again is a 2-seater, and I have just one car for now
Evo I've ridden in, and I just liked the STi better. Seems to fit "me" more, and one of my good friends already has an Evo. Not to mention my girlfriend is a Subbie freak, and has turned me into one as well.

I tested the EVO and STi and I liked the overall package of the STi better. Mine is a daily driver and it is a bit more comfortable than the EVO. I am not a good enough driver to really feel the difference on the track so I went for the power in stock form.

When I bought my WRX back in 2001, what I really wanted was the STi, but it was not available USDM. So I settled for the WRX and put my name on the list for the STi. Yes I waited for over 2 years to get my STi.

The extra power, six speed, good suspension were the obvious factors. I also like how easy scoobs are to work on and the ability to mod and get even better power and handling.

I am a scoob addict now.

My decision was between the STi and the 03 Cobra.

When I drove the Cobra the seating position and shifter were bad however the instant power was great but I didn't win me over enough to spend 34K on it. However, it is very mod friendly (more so that then STi). When the specs came and the design came out for the STi, I was won over. Also, AWD in the winter was a big deciding factor as well as the 4-doors.

i'm a die hard chevy guy er....was. GM killed off my beloved Camaro. the b*stards!!! anyway, one thing i always wanted but would never get in a Camaro is AWD. when one magazine stated that the STi came out of corners like an AWD powered Camaro that was the nail in the coffin. i called a few dealers and put my money down. i got the first STi they got in. Blue/Sliver. i did'nt even get to choose options. it was a take what we're getting situtation. i got the armrest extension, auto dimming mirror, wheel locks and yes...the boost gauge(and it does get in the way).but i only paid $32,000.

i had a '94 jeep crand cherokee limited and it was a chrysler, 'nuff said. i was looking for a car that had awd b/c my jeep had it and i was not about to give it up. i wasnted a standard transmission, wouldn't have it any other way. i wanted power, who doesn't. i wanted hids, ok a little unnecesssary but i like the look. i wanted gas economy, my jeep ate it way too much. there are some other littler things but every time i looked at car options i kept coming back to the sti. it was the perfect car for me. it gave me everything i wanted and more. i.e. GIRLS every guy needs 'em. thanks subaru

The reasons why I chose a STI given that I test drove an EVO:

- I can adjust seat height on the STI where I can't on the EVO. I was seating low in an EVO. Now the driving position is perfect on the STI.

- A little more horsepower on the STI. EVO has some turbo lag. STI almost has none.

- Although EVO corners a bit better, I don't think I can drive these cars to the limit to really feel the difference. STI actually has better ride quality and so it is good for me as a daily driver.

- Mitsu has bad reputation in terms of reliability although I know EVO is made in Japan.

- I think STI is more like a rally car in terms of the way it handles. Some reviews mention that STI comes alive cornering on dirt road.

- My wife does not like the EVO look

- STI's interior is better. I have blue/gold and the blue seats and the "STI" logo inside and out look really cool to me.

Overall, EVO is a great car. But I trust Subaru's reliability better. I can't afford my car broken down too often for me to go to work on time. And my wife has had a WRX for almost three years and experiences no problems at all.

I bought my wrx on the 14th of april 2001. Didn't test drive it till the paperwork was being processed. I got on the waiting list as soon as the STi was said to come to the states. Traded in my wrx for the STi. I knew I had to have awd. I test drove the evo, and it did rather well, but I knew I was waiting for the STi. I like the features better. Had to have awd because I really missed my delta integrale. I have driven the awd escort rs cosworth, subarus tuned and gutted like rally cars. and had my azz handed to me by both in the mountains in italy. My STi is not as fast and does not handle as well as my lancia did but it is sooooo much nicer
as a daily driver! I use it on tarmac and dirt. --Sin52

I cancelled my order to purchase a BMW 330 w/ZHP package for the STi. The BMW sales guy was in shock when I told him I was passing on the Ultimate Driving Machine for a Subaru. His expression was priceless.

I had an A4 2.8 Quattro. Though I do miss the smooth 6 on long trips, there is really no comparison when it comes to performance. The 330 with the performance package does handle great—very E36 M3-like.

I owned a '02 WRX (stock looking Cobb Stage II w/ a bunch of other misc crap) and when I test drove the STi I honestly just knew I had to have it.

Missed having a "fun" car. Did the 280z's, Civic Si's, and Integra's years ago, this time I'd thought I'd get something that had a little more serious go with the show.

Only had it 2 days and it gets a lot of attention. Maybe too much. Guess I'll get used to it. Obviously the thumbs-ups and "wow, an sti" reactions are nice, but I'd rather not have everyone and their brother zooming around me or trying to race just because the wing and hood scoop gets them bent out of shape.

But basically, this car should be a lot of fun!
